|
|
G'day all,
I've recently installed a trip comp into my el futura.
Whenever I turn the headlights on, the backing light for the trip comp goes off. According to one of the old documents, it said to pull the dash apart and solder in a resistor. to my suprise my dash already had one (cop dash) but I replaced it anyway just incase it was faulty. But the bloody thing stil does'nt work properly when the headlights are on.
Any suggestions?
thanks. |

The dimmer wire is brown in EL's...this brown wire is used for dimming other things too like head unit and climate control displays.
Cheers,

thanks for the info, i think i'll just put up with it as i don't like the idea of messing up the dimmers for the rest of the displays that you mentioned.
thanks guys. |

I have the same trouble in my ELXR8.
The trip computer light flickers slightly when dash lights are dimmed.
No problems when switch is on full voltage.
I thought it might of been the dimmer switch so I changed it and still no joy.
I have the ex chaser instruments as well but havent looked to see if the resistor is in place.
Not sure what else it could be.

if you cut the wire behind the trip computer it wont mess around with the dimmers for anything else.
all the other items that use the dimmer will still be conencted and still work
its as if you trip computer isnt there (sorta) |

| o.k guys, I decided to cut the wire, but still no joy. I tried a few other things and it still does'nt work. What I decided to do now is to replace the whole data line from a fairmont to see if that works, and while i'm at it i'm gonna get climate control fitted, although it's a big job i think it'll be worth it in the end.....and it better bloody work or else i'll be donating the car to charity |

You might have a dry joint. Suggest you resolder all the joints on the P.C.B. |
