I am not sure of the difference between rwkw & kw. icon_confused.gif

What does X amount of kilowatts = rwkw? I suppose there are a lot of variables involved. What would my stock EBII V8 with 165kw be in rwkw?

Thanks

Autobox has more drivetrain losses resulting in a lower rwkw leading than a car equipped with a manual.

I think its about 33% loss with the BTR auto, and maybe 23% loss with the T5. The auto im pretty sure about but i dont know how much loss with the manual.

Condition of your drivetrain will affect readings as well as temps on the day of the run.

Rear Wheel KiloWatts is basically what you are putting to the ground. the KW's on the Boss 260 sticker (for example) is measured at the engine (manufacturers use this figure) but it does not take all the losses through your drive train (box, diff, etc.) into account. A chassis dyno gives you a figure in RWKWs and is probbalbly the best figure to quote in a pissing contest.

having a heap of horses isnt much good if you cant get it to the tar.

kw is the amount of power produced at the fly wheel of the engine.
rwkw(rear wheel kilo watts) is the amount of power produced at the rear wheels.

btr auto's have about 35% drive tratin loss(there is power lost along the drive train eg transmision, drive shaft ect.)
and t5 manual is about 25-30%

I'd estimate 165 at the flywheel would be about 120 at the rear wheels.

123.14 rwkw... using horspower at the rear wheels to get engine kilowatts... basically trial and error to get an engine killowatt reading....

123.14 X 1.34HP.. =165kw at the engine.. hence.. 123.14 rwkw.. in a perfect world.. icon_lol.gif -so many varables though.. icon_wink.gif

*kilowatts at the wheels converted by 1.34.. equals a rough idea as to how much killowatts at the engine.. "roughly"... icon_wink.gif

123.14 RWKW times 1.34 equals.. 165.0076..kw.. -pretty much right bang on it for power output from a stock 5 litre..

a really rough estimate can be made as follows

flywheel KW = rear wheel HP

rear wheel HP = flywheel KW

so in your previous example, a Boss 290 should put down approx 290 rwhp, its a rough calc, but will give you a ballpark figure

It is very close. My Ef XR8 put out 162 hp at the rears for a 170 kw motor, though i have to get it checked out due to it leaning out a fair bit. Max power was at 3200 rpm and A/F ratio was 14.8 : 1. icon_sad.gif
