My mate has a VL commodore manual and I have an ED falcon auto.

It would be fun to race them but I don't wanna lose.

How do you race in an auto? Just flick the power switch?

I asked fordforums and they said the VL will get me.

His is on 250 000k's and mine is 220 000k's.

What would be the cheapest mod that will give me the best value performance???

Also I want to keep the car as an auto and not a manual.

If it is going to be raced on a drag strip, put it in power and put in 3 instead of drive.

When you line up to stage, put your left foot on the brakeand right on the accelerator and get the revs up to around 1200ish so you get a decent launch.

the vl would get you off the line but like the ford has bigger litreage and power a standard vl is like 115kw at the engine and falcon is 149 kw at the engine assuming both stock... same wheigh the similair amasingly.. so you would easily pass him down a quarter.

diff ratio/first gear.
they're a slug off the mark.
throw some 3.45's in the a*** end and that helps to get it moving a bit harder off the mark but you dont lose the fuel economy on the highway.

Hmmm.

So at the line I flick the switch to power, shift it into 3rd, rev it to 1200 with the left foot on the brake and when it's go time I immediately put my accelerator to full and that's it?

Also will I need to use 4th gear? (it's a 4 speed auto).

For 4th gear would I just shift it into drive?

ok do this.... It makes no difference power/econ mode if you shift it yourself... put it in first and put the brake on and stall it up to 1500 light goes green flatten it and release the break. Click second at 5300 Or a little earlier. Unless you do it alot and can change on the limiter lol

You only stall it up that much???

You stall it up as much as you can... ie the stock stall is 2000-2200rpm
so I stall it up as much as i can befor i get wheel spin. Just dont sit
there staying stalled up for to long, 10 seconds (it heats the tranny oil up real good icon_lol.gif )

He is driving an ED they have a 1600 stall dude.

EF Onwards have a 2000-2200 Stally.

In our family flogger (EF Fairmont) Freak i stall it up with the handbrake....Flatten it with the handbrake up sits on 2200 and drop it on the green but then ya loose because your sideways off the line lol love it!

hmmm just a question.

Can I change the gears with the accelerator floored oe do I have to take my foot off with changing gears.

I've only gear shifted in a manual and they gotta clutch so I'm unsure how to shift gears in an auto.

Also wouldn't 5300RPM screw my transmission?

I havn't changed gears in an auto yet lol (getting my P's in 2 weeks).

So by flat you mean the accelerator at full throttle?

So this technique is better than driving from 3rd at start as mentioned earlier?

Also same thing for all the gears? 2 - 3 5300rpm too?

Is 4th necessary?

Yes.... But really..... Its a VL

you could just put it in Power. Put it in D and just floor it. and you should cain it unless something is wrong with the ED.
