Do you know which gas you have? You should find a label under the front edge of the bonnet.
If you have R12 then you cannot refill with that gas anymore, you will need a conversion, not sure how much needs to be changed so not sure what it would cost.
If you are running R134a you can refill with this gas, cost is about $100-$120 |

not entirely true, there is an r12 replacement gas.
an ED should be r134a anyway.
cost anywhere from 50 to 120 to get regassed.
problem is there is usually a reason why the system has no gas in it ... |

My understanding was R12 was to be replaced with R134a, with some small conversion to be done, which varied on differant cars. Falcons IIRC was dryer, compressor oil, and refill points/connectors.
What is the replacement gas called then? |

yeh R12 is heaps better...
ask anyone who had R12 and after an accident or something (and so went from perfecctly good system with R12) had to convert to R134A and they'll tell u it doesnt work as well.. ESP in terms of how quickly it cools the air on a really hot day... |

| it could also be the air mixer flap not working, do the climate control reset and if an error comes up it may not be the AC gas. i know its error E2 on the EF and EL for the mixer servo. |

Check that your compressor actually engages when turned on.
If it does not then the clutch it is either broken or your out of gas, as the compressor clutch will not engage when there is insufficient pressure in the system!
If the compressor engages but it is still not cold then it could be your blend door motor (press bottom right button (in buttons behind flap on module) and "off" at same time to run system self test). If you get an error code (E1, E2....etc) then let us know what it is and we can tell you what it means. If no error codes then your blend door and motor is fine.
If compressor engages and no errors then you should be hearing a sshhh-ing noise periodically when sitting inside the cabin as that is the sound of the system trying get pressure. If that is the case then a regass is on the cards and you should have no other problems.
Apart from the fact that the gas that was in there originally went somewhere.......and who knows where!
As far as the gasses go, R12 is no longer available, but FR12 is the direct replacement used with no conversion required. FR12 is a better gas than R134a and works better anyway.......so definately don't get your system converted even if they tell you to!
Hopr this helps! |
