Just wondering if anyone has put an EB2 motor & auto into an XF, when l took measurments it looked like the intake was going to be too close to suspension housing.

XG's have EB engines in a X series front end.
You need to change the sway bar, it'll hit the sump.
XG engine mounts also, they tilt the engine ever so slightly.

ive heard they fit with xf 6cyl body mounts and the eseries engine mounts. As for the trans the post above may be right about the slight tilt also seen blocks that space the sway bar lwr to the road to clear the sump. just put between the two mount clip on the front of the sway bar.

radiator and hoses may be more of a concern, i have an xg my advise would be to find xg stuff and use it all then you would be sure it will all fit and work.

Considering the price of an EL XR6 (about 4.5K) I'm not sure why you would bother.

Take a deep breath and consider for a moment what it would cost to throw an E series engine into an XF, grab a pen, some paper and a calculator if you must.

i think you could do it easy under $2000..
here is an example!
cost wise it cost me about $1500 to fit a au engine into my ea.
that included the au engine with 77,000 kms=$700/el ecu$80/el manifold,airbox all little bits and pieces=$200 +oil/filters,coolant,reco injectors=$150.
el radiator and fans=$150. and a few bucks here and there for things like paint,degreaser..ect.
and about 12 to 18 hours of my labour..and some welding skill.

i think you could do it for less as eb/el engines are getting cheap now days

also the thing you need to decide is are going efi or are you going to put a carby on it.?
if your going carby thats even easier..

Troyman I appreciate your comparison and agree with your breakdown of costs however we are not comparing apples with apples. I went through this process with my XF ute. What you end up with is a $1500 XF with XF handling, brakes creaks, groans and a whole bunch of little bugs that pop up along the way. The question you have to ask is at what point do you draw the value for money line. An XF is worth around 1.5K, realistic figure for mods are closer to 3.2K on the road legaly and insurable. You end up with an XF that is harder to sell due to being modified heavily and still only worth 1.5K. So you spend over double the value of the car hoping to achieve what? Sell the XF for 1.5K add that to the 3K you would have spent and what do you end up with? 4.5K to buy an EL XR6 that is worth 4.5K and out performs the modified XF in every regard.

well you do have a point..
i was really only making the point that he could get the engine in and running for around $1500-2000.
and i dont know what condition his car is in? it may already had $$ spent on suspension and brakes?
things like insurance, suspension, brakes and the original purchase price of the car is a different matter..
but with any car no matter how much money you throw at it you will never get it back..

he could buy a ef or el for the right price but if he wants to mod it he is still going to spend money..

ill admit i have spent over $7000 on my car in total over the last 4 years and i will never get that 7000 back but the enjoyment i get from modding my car is far better than going out and buying a car already moded.
weather it be a xa/xd/xf or e series falcon we are always going to spend money..

thats why we are on here! to modify our fords.
and it is always good to look at the overall picture to get an understanding what we are in for..
if we added up the total amount we spend on our cars we would probably have a heart attack.lol..

even if you were to buy a ba or bf falcon today for around $20.000 after say 5 years that $20,000 car will have lost posably $5 to $7000 value and if you were to sell it you wont get that money back...

All good points Troyman. It's a bit like fishing, heaps cheaper to go to the fish market... but we don't.

I couldn't agree more with you guys. You know what, you fella's don't even want to know what I have spent on my EFI conversion's.

But , I reckon the fish always tastes better when you catch it yourself.
