It is apparently the 3rd largest cam you can get for these. (Only go 2 sizes bigger).
And is 1 size up from being reccomended not being used with an automatic gearbox.
It has a VERY lumpy idle & with the infomation he has given me im lead to belive its the cam profile number 373 for the 250 Crossflow.
What are you thoughts??
Also, if i was to get this cam, how much would it set me back & also what else would i need in conjunction with this cam??
Cheers, Nathan |
Hi Nathan
I'm a little bit unsure, are you running a manual or auto transmission?
The 373 profile, which is one of the original Holden XU-1 profiles, would not be suitable for an auto, unless you had a 3000 high stall fitted.
It would have a rev range in a 250 crossflow from 2800 to 5500 or maybe even a little higher. The mods you've got at present would be compatible.
The cost to supply a new cam would be $198.00 inc. GST. Freight to Murwillumbah would be extra, possibly about $20.00.
Cheers

Thanks for that. By the way, the car is a manual. |

It can't be the 1673; that's only for the E series engine. The same type of grind, taking into account the different rocker ratio, on an AU cam, outright sale will cost you $223.00 + freight if applicable. |

Hey
I've been reading a bit thru here and on your site, but cant decide on a cam, but I was thinking of a 1673.
I've got a 95 EF 4L Manual, its got extractors, exhaust and a fatter intake on it.
My mate just bought a car exact same as mine with some headwork done to it and a 'stage 2' cam, whatever that means.
The bloke we got it off said they went up to stage 5, but without getting too far into detail what would you rate out of your line up as something like a stage 2? maybe a 1004?
Cheers |

We don't honestly feel that an AU equiv 1673 grind would be suitable for an auto. The equiv. of the 1636 for the AU would be our suggestion. We do know however that a few people have fitted the 1673 in an E series with an auto and they're happy with the rougher idle and that sort of thing. |

I think you are pretty accurate with your comment "and a 'stage 2' cam, whatever that means".
We have never really gone along with the stage 1, stage 2 thing. Years ago, it used to be quarter race, half race, full race. These sort of terms originated in America and l don't know why. At the end of the day, whereas we might have 2 or 3 stages of cam, other people, as you've said, might have 5. So our stage 2, in that situation, is going to be different to some other dude's stage 2 because he has 5 levels of cams whereas we only have 2. |

OK. Let me check on exactly which profile it is for the AU and I'll get back to you tomorrow. Sorry this is taking so long. |

Looks like I've missed you again. I noticed today that you'd made an inquiry on another forum which we failed to answer.
I promise you I'll give you an answer tomorrow. So many inquirys. So many PM's. So little time. |

Hi, just wondering if you can give me some advice on what type of cam would be suitable for my application.
My vehicle details are stated below and im just wanting to use it for street/strip and is also a daily driver.
I will be looking at heads and manifold down the track as well so will need a cam to suit.
Thanks. |

Firstly, it would not be easy to provide a cam profile that will produce significant gains for street/strip whilst still being acceptable as a daily drive. What is your preference?
Secondly, are you looking at a regrind or a new cam?

1673 providing your looking for more top end. If good idle is important, then stick with the 1636. |

well im aiming for the 210-220rwkw mark and will be looking to get the car tuned for track once everything is done (heads and intake aswell).
Car is driven daily but only to work and back which is only 15 minutes each way so thats not going to be a big deal.
Im looking at new cam please.
Cheers |

I don't think the idle with the 1673 is bad at all. Just a bit rougher then the XR which wasn't rough for me. It was running rough when I had a massive vacuum leak but after fixing that problem and setting the timing back to normal it is now running smooth with power throughout the whole rev range.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
The cam profile that we would recommend is numbered 992A12.
The specifications are:-
Lift at lobe EX. & IN. 0.295"
Valve lift EX. & IN. 0.472"
Advertised duration EX. & IN. 276 degrees
Duration @ 0.050" EX. & IN. 214 degrees
Phase angle 112 degrees
The cost to supply a new roller cam, ground to 992A12 is $780.00 inc. GST. Freight, if applicable, is extra.
Thank you |
