hey can any 1 help me here its a tricky 1
well i got a el xr6 and at idle it has a slight miss in it and if u start it after it's been sitting for a wile it coughs and splutters when u go for the go pedal then clears up again also when u put ur foot on the brake's the revs drop down heaps and it feels like it's stalling it's realy pissing me off i can't find it. its got a chip in it and it has to run on 98 unleaded but i don't think it's fuel quality i've dun leads and plugs and gave the injectors a clean and the throttle body but still the same it's got me stumped

Do you mean booster?
If the booster is split it'll cause a vacuum leak.
Check the booster visibly for a split/crack.
Or pull vac hose out of the booster, and block it with something, see if that improves the idle.
Another test, if you stop the car, do the brakes go hard straight away, or stay soft for a couple of pumps? |

As above, to test just block the big vac line to the booster with your thumb and have the car revved.
Also check your cat converter, map and HEGO [oxy] sensors.
Cheers,

mine does this too, on cold starts it likes to cough and splutter when accellerating in gear, the previous owner gutted the cat, im replacing it tomorrow.
also when i accelerate up a hill, the aircon goes to the windscreen, then back to whatever when i back off again. this means vaccuum leak yeah?
sorry if i just repeated a whole lot of stuff and probably asked a question that has the answer right here, but i cbf reading heaps at this time of the morning.
cheers |

Yes, but the coughing and spluttering may be unrelated though low vac wouldn't help. If any vac lines are loose fitting a smear of silicone will help them seal and maybe a new seat for where the booster vac line plugs in. It should be a tight fit.
