|
|
Ok i know one is not a Ford, but its a 4 cylinder lol
Looking at buying the missus a car, and the 95 model Hyundai Sprint's seem to be good value. But i know jack s**t about smaller front wheel drive cars and was wondering what kind of common faults do these cars have and what to look out for when buying
Also looking at Festiva's as they seem to be reliable
Also if anyone else can vouch for a good small sized +95' model efi car
cheers
4g budget

| I've seen nothing but trouble with Excels. Strangely enough, Festiva's kill them for longevity - my mother's 99 model has done 280 000 kms, barely ever got serviced in it's life and it's been smooth sailing. Excels have head gasket problems and really are built disposably. |

Ok, found a common problem so far.
timing belt failures seem to be common and usually result in damaged valvetrain
Been told these excels need new timing belt every 90,000kms...... not a good sign considering most people wouldnt bother if its running ok |

Excel's are the EA's of Hyundai .. the look like s**t, they drive like s**t but they just won't die!
So having said that there are a lot of excel's on the road, cheap to run and cheap 2nd hand parts too!!! |

yeah theres an excel in town here for 800, and was hoping not more than 1000 needed to make it pass roadworthy.
but then theres the timing belt issue they apparently have, and i couldnt imagine that being very cheap to replace as preventative maintenance? |

| My mum has a very neglected 1999 Festiva, it refuses to go into gear unless you double clutch it. But this thing is never gets serviced so it could be completely screwed. |

just incase you dont know.
all cars with belt driven cams will need the cam belt changed between every 80,000 and 100,000kms or 10 years..
most people dont worrie or dont know about it ..
thats why they say its a common problem because they usually buy a car with just over 100,000 kms thinking its got low kms! lol but forget or dont know that the cam belt is part of the cars 80 or 100,000km service.and some people only change oil ect. and forget about the rubber belt driving the cam..and more than likely they fail just after they buy the car. |
