The advantage to being 10 years behind is buying original games cheaper than it would cost to pirate them.

I got a small collectors edition of Doom 1, Doom 2 and The Final Doom all on one CD. I also got a collectors edition of Doom 3 and a Doom 3 T-shirt  |

It is Dooms fault I got into PC FPS back in '93!
(Tell a lie, it was it's predecessor Wolf-3D)
I was massively addicted to these games.
I even uploaded the 'Simpsons' mod!
Then Duke Nukem 3d in 1996. He has the best quotes in game history.
I mean what other game had functional light switches, toilets, pool tables, arcade games, closed-circuit cameras, and strippers? |

Duke Nukem 3D was revolutionary for the FPS Genre IMO. |

Nah, I think Wolfenstein was the defining moment in FPS games, broke the mould and set the standard, When the doom engine came out that was when it really got rolling, there was plenty of copy cat stuff like hexen and stuff like that, that was built on essentially the same engine. Duke Nukem 3D was more the next major evolution in FPS with interactive enviroment.. but definatly without ID games Wolfenstein or Doom series Duke would have possibly not been the way it was.
I think Duke Nukem was release about 6-8 months after Doom, BUT the hype surrouding doom at the time dulled Duke Nukem a bit, until people looked sideways.
I know alot of my mates only had eyes for doom, mainly due to co-op and deathmatch varients that duke did not seem to support anywhere near as well. |

The best quote that cracked me up was, "I am going to rip your head off and s**t down your neck", I think that quote was from fighting a dragon(?) and after you beat it, Duke walks up, rips its head off, then drops his pants and proceeds to sit down and read a paper.  I havent seen it for about 10yrs so I might have missed something. |
