Sounds simple right?
Well, in this case, the following are my objectives:
(1) Enable Memory Mirrors and Mirror Dip During Reverse
(2) Upgrade from Dual Airbags to Quad Airbags (including Side Airbags)
(3) Integrate Memory Seats to High Series BEM for Keyfob Activation of the first 2 memory locations.
(4) Drivers 8-Way Powered Seats with Memory and Passenger 6-Way Power Seats. Leather.
This is combining a few smaller projects into one.
I'll post my activities and results as I progress.

I been lining this one up for quite some time. It's good to feel the planets finally aligning.
Ever since the DZ ICC conversion I've looking for something more challenging...!
These are my current risks:
(1) I've been told the RCM is a real munt to change out while the dash is in place. I guess I better prepare for that.
(2) The RCM is manually programmed with a 'PROG_ID' value. This can be retrieved by a Mode 22 query to PID 5942. This PROG_ID tells the RCM to look at 3 pins, and determine if they connected to GND, IGN or Not Connected. This is a bit of a gotcha - and is why you can't just change RCM from car to car. But now I know about it I think I've got it sorted. I'll talk about that later.
(3) There are 5 PIDS in the RCM that say 'RCM Version conflicts with X' where X is either Front Impact Sensor, Passenger Impact Sensor, Drivers Impact Sensor, OCS (Not sure what that is) and Hardwired VID which I reckon is the PROG_ID. I'm not sure of the implication of this yet - whether it means you can't mix and match sensors or not. I will mitigate this by using the same sensors that came with the RCM, but since this will leave me with a spare RCM and front sensor, I'll work on this after the fact.
(4) The leather on the seats is a little damaged. Consultation with a 'Leather Doctor' franchise operator with pictures has made me feel better. But still, it stays a risk.
(5) LWB Loom Length and Rear Numberplate Lights. Because I'm changing looms to support the side impact sensors and extra power on the passengers seat, the extra length is a mild concern - but I expect I can take that up in the parcel shelf. Better to be too long than too short! And the Fairlane has the number plate in the rear bumper, not on the bootlid, so hopefully the plug to the bootlid harness is still populated on the LWB Loom.

| 1, 2, and 3 sound like potential show stoppers, 4 is just a case of $, and 5 worst case, you can splice in you existing boot loom.

(1) Nah, Ive been there. The carpet is the biggest pain. When installing they have to be torqued just right so that the resistance to GND is at the right value. I can measure that.
(2) Nah, it's a Loom thing. I've got the right looms.
(3) If I get the sensors that are with the current module I should be right. More research post-install will follow.

OCS = Occupant Classification System.
It's the sensor in the Passenger Seat that determines which of the two-stages the airbags will deploy. Probably based on the weight I would say.
The options for the values that sensor can have (PID 5966) are:
0, Empty
1, Below Minimum Threshold
16, Indeterminate
17, Above Maximum Threshold
22, Occupied Medium
25, Occupied Large
255, Invalid
OK, so just another sensor then, fine. I'd have that one on the seat.

I found the PIDS that show serial numbers for the sensors.
So if the RCM checks the serial numbers of the snesors for version compatibility - maybe this is it?
The RCM Serial Number is in E231 and E232
Drivers Side Sensor is in E237 and E238
Passenger Side Sensor is in E239 and E23A
Front Sensor is in E23B and E23C
Only the RCM PID has been showing me different values between types of vehicle, the rest show me FFFFFFFF.

Parts ordered today.
Kit list is:
(1) BF Fairlane Leather interior. Drivers 8-Way powered seat (the 8th way is drivers recliner position - I'll have a good look at Lumbar and see if I can maybe do that one day) with Memory, and 6-Way powered Passenger seat. Rear seat bench/back and side bolsters (I'll have to redo the side bolsters somehow). All 4 door trims with BF door handles.
(2) I already have Memory Mirrors, Mirror Modulator Controller and Drivers Door Harness.
(3) Airbag Module - BF Type B RCM
(4) Driver and Passenger side main harnesses (for powering the seats, running memory lines and connecting to the side airbag sensors)
(5) Front and both side Airbag Sensors

| Hey Lukeyson, where are you getting your parts from as I'm after a couple of exterior body mouldings from a BA Fairlane...the left and right mouldings that attach to the rear dogleg section between the back doors and the rear wheelarch....cheers Linz.

I mentioned I'd talk about the PROG_ID. Apologies if I don't make sense, I've hooked into a few James Squire Golden Ales and topped it off with an Erdinger Pikantus. I'm currenlty a Googly boy.
When you do a query of PID 5942 on the RCM you get a different value depending on the configuration of the RCM in question. The values are:
0=NNN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ignition, #2 = Ground, #3 = No Connect
1=GNN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ground, #2 = No Connect, #3 = No Connect
2=INN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ignition, #2 = No Connect, #3 = No Connect
4=NGN, Vehicle ID #1 = No Connect, #2 = Ground, #3 = No Connect
5=GGN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ground, #2 = Ground, #3 = No Connect
6=IGN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ignition, #2 = Ground, #3 = No Connect
16=NIN, Vehicle ID #1 = No Connect, #2 = Ignition, #3 = No Connect
17=GIN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ground, #2 = Ignition, #3 = No Connect
18=IIN, Vehicle ID #1 = Ignition, #2 = Ignition, #3 = No Connect"
I've seen the following:
BAXR8 - no side airbags: GNN
SXTG - curtain airbags: IIN
SYTX - no curtain airbags (I think - I'll ask again): IIN
BFSR - side airbags: IGN
2 of these 3 pins are used. Pins 20 and 21 on connector 189b are the first two if these, The 3rd is always not connected (N). As you can see, this is a hard-wired setting provided by the Loom. This means that the RCM is dependent on the Loom installed in the car!
Knowing this means there is obvisouly an easy way to circumvent the configuration by rewiring the loom accordingly. I don't know if anyone has struggled with getting different modules to work with incompatible wiring harnesses. But I can see how it could happen.
I certainly haven't seen this written up anywhere else.

| Hey Lukeyson, thanks for the reply (and with a picture, too!)....yes, the side colour coded door mouldings (the ones that are normally black in the base models-XT/XL ute etc.) The mouldings that I need are the short ones that are behind the rear door and in front of the rear wheel arch (left and right sides). They MUST be from a BA Fairlane or G220 with the same flat moulding profile as the BA sedan/wagon type ( the BF Fairlane uses a different profile moulding with a chrome strip incorporated).....cheers Linz.

I am looking for someone else that has replaced side looms before.
I currently have a query about how the cabling runs from the side looms under the carpet between the B Pillars, and to the centre console for the handbrake, gearchange and rear footwell lighting.
My main question is of accessibility. Do I have to lift carpets up to get to these cabling runs, or do they route via some sort of protected channel somewhere?
