I reply with heavy heart, the tuning cannot happen tomorrow, this past week all time has been devoted towards manufacture of a whole lot of H kits and the new Magna kit, its just the way it worked out, never rains unless it pours.
The AU stands about 20 meters way with nearly everything in place but absolutely no time to get it to the tuner tomorrow morning. Ute has to work solid on kit delivery's, parts pick ups etc until next weekend when I think the load is going to come off a bit.
I can put up a pic of the magna kit just in case anyone thinks I am bs'ing you all |

| Hang there is some cheap Magna's out there, I have seen some nice 00 models for $5500 on ebay with about 140k km on them, add a blower kit for $5500 and you got a 13 sec machine right away i would reckon. Comfort and performance ....... the looks are in the eye of the beholder ...... |

|
|
Ute is booked again for next Mon/Tue. Hoping I can be less busy to make it happen this time.
Well this afternoon is was the Falcon's turn, Holden and Magna will wait for another day.
I refined the bracket, some time wasting issues arose and now the bracket has a modification to make it super simple to fit.
So far the kit is fitted as a complete setup, the tune and injectors is still to come but everything under the bonnet is more or less complete. Still need to connect the cooling fan for the charger ASAP.
The vehicle started immmediately as always and apart from the whistle nothing was different. Went for a quick spin to see what happens and have concluded the following:
1. Torque is MASSIVELY increased even within the very small amout of boost it will take.
2. As soon as intake sees around 2psi the ECU cuts the engine immediately, so if you ever hear of people boosting an AU on a stock ECU and saying its going well ......... I can tell you they are talking poo.
3. Vehicle drives to perfection, no pops f@rt or anything else until too much pressure is seen for the stock MAP sensor and engine power is cut to zero until pressure drops, engine continues again immediately no problem.
4. At 1600rpm with vehicle 3 mins after start up (more or less cold) in drive and the brakes on just enough to hold the vehicle the tyres will smoke with no apparent effort from engine, they just turn steadily. Then if throttle is increased to 15% or thereabouts engine rpm climbs to 2600 and auto shifts into second, tyres smoke insanely, engine holds 2600 rpm with no apparent effort, throttle is regulated to hold boost below engine cut. This does not happen stock, it takes full throttle to break the tyres loose and then its only steadily and 2nd gear is never considered.
5. With a tune this ute will likely hold 3rd gear in a straight line with no traction thats the indications for now.
6. The supercharger is running a high boost pulley, one which I do not sell to the public. This is what is bringing in the super torque early but may hold the engine back with too much intake heat (high boost) at the top end, anyhow time will tell. If we added an intercooler I think a high 12 would be on the cards. I can't believe how much stronger result the 4.0 INTECH is giving compared to the V6s I normally work with.
7. Tomorrow I will put up a vid of the first/second gear smoke show at 2600rpm and some photos.
Stay tuned

| The ute was delivered to the tuner an hour ago, it will not get a full tune but the big injectors will be fitted and vehicle made to operate correctly with them, then in 1 week the final tune will be completed. |

OK, a new approach at this time
Going for the newer version of the flash tuner, the company having a go are flying some dude up from Bris to sort it all, well thats what they are saying. Going for 36lb injectors, stock rail pressure, and 2 bar MAP. This will also give customers a tune they can vary by certain percentages to nip up the tune to perfection for their application.
Not sure on time frame but this weekend would be good since so many are waiting. |

| Well the vehicle is on the rollers and the development for the Raptor generic tune is underway, another 24hrs at most and we should have some results. |

Latest updates
We are not done yet, but the news so far is extremely good.
Beating the fuel cut with the stock MAP
First thing to overcome was the phenomenon that you cannot tune the AU with the stock MAP sensor in place (using SCT software), this has previously stopped all challengers in the past and it VERY nearly stopped us too. It was not until about 5:30pm yesterday evening we resolved it and have made history by creating a new device that is a 2 minute fix for this issue. From here on in ALL AU 6 Models (ditto for VCT) will be flashable with supercharger tunes. This new part will obviously be in every Raptor kit, you fit it, you fit the 36lb injectors, flash in the tune and thats it. It will not help the turbo guys but for centrifugal blower applications its unbeatable, tunes up as easy as NA.
Power
The tuning is not finished, we went very well and progressed immediately once the new MAP cheater was installed. However we were stopped in our tracks as the 6PK belt shredded itself. This is due to the fact we went to a lower boost pulley which is slightly out of alignment, this needs to be resolved and tuning will continue next week.
Ute is now tuned to 4500rpm and showing 225rwhp, one thing has been noted that the manifold butterfly arrangement is opening just at this point and flattening the power immediately even tho boost is maintained, this is also where the belt caved and I am very keen to see what is going on right there.
We overlaid the runs over the top of our Supercharged intercooled Commodore chart and have found the Falcon is significantly stronger right from the first measuring point, there is a 20mm gap between the lines. Essentially this tells me the thing is going to certainly go very well.
Things to still do, properly align new pulley, tune >4500rpm and test the effect of the manifold butterfly position against power developed.
And I will add the ute is running to complete perfection, it starts, runs and powers on smooth as silk, people are going to be very impressed with this.
To be honest the innovation of beating the MAP was our biggest highlight of the day, we did try parts supplied by other companys and they just proved useless, Raptor now has the correct solution. It was very nearly looking like the tuner would be going back to Brisbane without having made progress.
The reason the MAP cheater is no use to turbo guys is with turbo and the fluctuating boost you need an active MAP sensor when in positive pressure so you can fuel and time precisely to match the variable pressure. With the supercharger at each point the same thing always happens therefore you tune for that point and its done...........
Are we happy OR WHAT .
I will have the ute over the weekend (fit a new belt this morning after I pick em up), we are setting the limiter at 4500rpm for that period of time as I have a few jobs for the ol jigger over the next few days.
Stay tuned for MORE , we are definitely furthering the tuning possiblities for Ford AU owners!! |
