hi, my aunt wants to keep holes to a minimum and im just wondering if its possible to put 2 antennas up on the shed on seperate poles one facing the wireless modem router and the other one directed to wherever i go so i can transmit the wireless signal as far as i can.
would it be as simple as connecting one end of the cable to the antenna facing the house and the other end to the antenna facing whereever i go and it will relay the signal without putting holes in the walls in the house or wont it work.
i want to transmit the wireless signal for about 20 kms thursdays and fridays and the rest of the wk about 10-15 kms.
how high would the pole have to be if i had a high gain antenna. |

How much money have you got?
It would be cheaper buying the portable wireless setup. |

To do what you want to do your going to need to run cable in plastic conduct from the wireless modem inside to the antenna outside,
you are going to need a sturdy antenna base, a good quality antenna to suit, a booster to boost the signal to a level to enable a strong connection,
more than likely permits and licences to build and operate the edquipment and heaps of money to buy all the stuff you are going to need. |

most wireless network antennas are omni-directional thou it is possible to get directional ones which can transmit over long distances, but expensive and not sure on the quality like dropouts and transmission loss.
as has been said look at the wireless boradband cards some are reasonable in price. |

We have bigpond wireless.. think its 55 a month and ya get 200mb download. Now thats dad's s**t plan, but if ya ring bigpond they will have much better plans with my download.
Trying to run a wireless network more than 20km's the road... not a very cost effective idea. Either a) do as above and get wireless internet. or b) Get cable wherever your 20km distance is. It will be cheaper. |
