This is an enquiry for a co worker who is going to be putting twin thermo fans on to his XD. We are wondering what model to put on between EF/L or AU. Questions raised are which ones are the better fans in performance and fitting problems due to size between XD-EF/L or AU.

| I fitted a set of EL thermo fans to an XD 351V8. They work ok, but one prob was that the water pump wasn't positive in it flow. This XD is fitted with a tranny cooler, engine oil cooler and power steering oil cooler, and a 4 core Aussie desert cooler radiator, and it ran hot, till I modified the water pump impeller, now its all good. Had also tried 3 different brands of water pump too, before the moded one. |

Hi, I've just finished fitting BA twin thermo fans to my XW. They work great. In doing my research I found the following info that will help you decide which model will be best suited to your radiator. Note they all have the same style fan motor/blade setups.
XD radiator core size 660w x 455h or 550w x 455h)
EL/EF radiator cores are 702w x 418h
AU radiator cores are 660w x 426h
BA radiator cores are 650w x 430h
So I reckon the AU would be spot on for the larger XD rad, you'll just have to work out your own mounting bracketry. |

| Thanks Myke. He decided to go with the AU thermo's today. It's size lined up perfectly with the rad and will line up with most of it. All he has to do is trim two opposite corners a little to make room for the hoses and make up a bracket. Other than that it looks like an easy fit for his car. Now he ponders on what speed to use. Whether to just let it kick in when the engine is getting warm or if the engine runs to hot to just leave it at full speed all the time. It only ever travels 1000km a year since it is a 11 second car... After some recent work he's hoping on 10's when he runs it next. |

Dont really need a bracket
Drill holes where the fan shroud bolts on and fit the screw through the thermos to it - the bottom drill holes and use heavy duty cable ties to fit the base of the fans |

I did the same in SAS01 when the 408 stroker was built cjh, welded a disc to the back of the impeller to stop cavitation ... Aussie Desert Coolers 4row aluminium radiator as well, never had an overheating problem, we decided to clean up the front of the motor and go to an electric pump thats controlled by the Motec ECU, so all the hard work for nothing lol. |

we used EF fans on our XD, new off the shelf water pump, new adrad core.
wired the fans to have low speed on all the time and swited the high speed side with a temp switch from a 1990 model ford laser
never had a problem with after that.
and thats keeping a 40thou over 10.5:comp 400hp off the bottle engine cool.
the big test was doing a 30min stint in a line of cars dropping kids off at a school formal. gauge stayed under 90c the whole time. the high speed very rarely comes on |

| There is a XF clevo up here with AU fans....the Au one are quite good as they are offset to cool the radiator hotspots. |
