|
|
I have come across a few topics lately across the net that have had some members blowing up about the quality of certain brands of petrol. I'm not sure who to beleive as it seems to be very subjective.
My question is which is your preferred brand for both Unleaded and Unleaded Premium and why?

I 'try' to stay away from Shell v-power, My car pings on it.
I seem to have best results with BP ultimate and Caltex Vortex
I also don't mind Safeway's premium (caltex i think)
so BP FTW for me. |

bah v-power all the way for the xr8. about 450k's to 62ltr tank. smooth idle
a tank of bp and it runs like s**t i get less k's and it pings.
caltex imo is rubbish. would much rather run diesel
only used mobil once or twice so cant really give my opinion on that
and i avoid liberty and all other independent servos like the plague
just my 2c |

what do you guys think of the new premium ethanol blend. I think its 10% ethanol and 90% PULP.
I have run it for a while now and have had no probs. It is cheaper PULP. |

| I dont understand why every1 seems to think v-power is crap and ultimate is the best. Its like every1 hears it by mouth and word and then it becomes general knowledge, mine runs better on v-power then the other stuff. |

my car starts and runs good on all unleaded fuels (normal driving) but under harsh load (extreme thrash conditions) i find with the premium e 10(ethonol blend)the car to be very slow to respond and i get a metho like smell. also it runs hotter and pings at low rpm @ full throttle.
i found that shell v-power and bp ulimate run ok(no pinging or running hot) just not as responsive..
but i found that my car runs best on caltex vortex 98 and mobil synergy 98..i can give it a huge boot full in all conditions without pinging of running hot..
i can use normal unleaded if i drive like a granny lol...but any lead footing it and hello mr ping.lol |

Only 98 we get down here is BP Ultimate.
Personally, i think the place you buy the fuel from can have a bigger effect than the brand of fuel you buy... |

stay away from any ethanol fuels. EL fairmont was run on e10 fuels for a few months ( like over 6) - result = burnt out valves, fcked fuel lines and fuel pump. |

I have no probs with Boost98, in fact I think I had a good run with it once.
I'm sure the 50cm of rubber fuel line i have can handle ethanol, and I think engine rev outs cause more damage than a bees wang of sugar. |

I top up the "tank" (as in big car - military machinery etc ) every saturday at Caltex with $50, first fill up LPG, generally around the $35 mark @ 70.9 c/pl and make up the remainder of the $50 with Vortex 98 for cold starting purposes and a little weekend hooning in the industrial estate to "test my engine tweeks" ( that's what I tell the missus anyway ) besides the usual power loss between lpg and petrol, I have found that the old girl responds best to the vortex! HUGE noticable difference in power! I have tried the BP and Shell premiums but didn't feel much gain over standard ULP or running on gas My vote goes to Vortex 98. and Caltex LPG.
PS. Just thought I would mention that my LPG installer advised me to stay well clear of BP LPG. Said it was "dirty gas" and not good for the car, used it once and sure enough I had my first major induction backfire the next morning after filling on BP. Should have listened to the guy I suppose, havn't been back to BP. Coincidence??? Not willing to risk it!

Thats dead on the money IMO! I know for a fact that the mobil around here does something to thier petrol as quite a few people that i know including myself that went there had a loss of power and reduced Klms per tank. but another mobil a few suburbs away was fine! Bloody dodgy operators. Hence the Mobil closed down a few months ago.
I tend to go for caltex, seems to run alright on that. Have tried a few of the others, shell didnt seem as responsive, and BP didnt seem to get many klms out of tank (this was 2 years ago now) I think i may try another brand soonish, just to give tem another go, as they do change every now and again. |

for those people who says their car pings on either V-power or Ultimate. You better get you car checked as it shouldn't do that on either 91, 95, or 98 octane rating.
mine's a v8 Fairlane and this is what i can say on differences:
shell V-power 98 - you can feel immediate response on WOT. It gives deep drone sound and i love it.
shell Unleaded 91 - you tend to get more mileage compared to 98 but not as good 98 in terms of extra power you get with higher octane.
BP Ultimate 98 - Preety much same performance you get from Vpower 98 BUT my car drinks it like water. I get less milelage compared to Vpower 98
BP Premium 95 - the best in terms of the amount of mileage you get out of it. I remember driving from Liverpool to Canberra then back and still have about 105km left on my tank.
BP Unleaded 91 - My car tends to rev more before it change gears. I consider this the worst fuel on my Fairlane V8.
These are just my personal opinion and it all depends how well my car is maintaned and tuned. so really, there is no such thing as a baseline for comparing petrol brands if everyone's car is maintained in different ways. |
