just watching the news and they had an item about the LPG subsidy being stopped in the next budget

they said rudd is going to make a decision when he gets back from overseas

in a way I would like to see this happen as the LPG installers deserve to get f**k in a**....ripoff bastards raising the price and ripping off the general public....every taxpayer is being taken for a ride under this scheme while these bastards line their pockets

there should at least be an inquiry into why the cost of a conversion has risen so much

if they get rid of the subsidy you watch the price drop all of sudden

yeah thats true, but people would be more out of pocket without the subsidy, cause the gas installers will only drop the price down by so much

stoopid idea to get rise of the subsidy

i have yet to see the cost rise over in perth

a few family members have had their carsconverted and only cost $100 or so after rebate
mainly due to the fees at the license centre etc

even 2-3 yrs back when i asked for my falcon i was quote 2.5k
now it is 3k
not bad

i dont doubt there are some dogey ppl out there

the price in WA has definately gone up.. the std price with everyone I called was $3500. Still cheaper with the subsity though (before $2500, $1000 subsity=$1500 out of pocket. Now $3500, $33000 subsity=$500 out of pocket)

heres some quotes that someone else has done a while ago...

Id like it the old way when there were no rebates and you could get a second-hand kit installed for $700

A friend of mine had a conversion place swap the LPG system from a EL Taxi into another EL and it only cost him $500...he took both cars there and picked them up a few days later.....BUT that was a few months before the rebate came in.....Try to find someone to even do it now

I wonder if it will be triple whammy where they introduce the excise a few years earlier and increase it as well.

yeah its due to be introduced this year at 2.5c/Lt isnt it? then rises to 12.5 by 2012...

but you can bet that the price at the pump will rise by heaps more than that...and each will blame the other and we screwed as usual....id say youll be looking at lpg reaching 75c/lt soon and well have gov and petrol companies blaming world prices

LPG ain't what it used to be. Diesel Peugeots are the answer these days.

Don't put all the blame on the installers, soon after the rebate was announced the LPG suppliers prices went up, some tanks more than doubled in price, just go and ask a fitter.
Even LPG prices have gone up not in parity with new increased costs.

So I can assume the execise will stay in place dispite the rebate scheme dying..

As usual something half assed to try and make something worse look better. Then the half assed bandaid solution is dropped and we're just left with something worse.

Most of it is produced as a byproduct of oil refinement so its price will fluctuate to a small extent with that and the international market, but its lame why we pay so much as we produce 90% of what we use and actually export it.

Imagine if more of us drove around on cheaper, cleaner & less geopolitically violating fuel. But it seems it's not on the agenda of the suits.

Exise to be put on 2.5cpl starting 2011 capped at 12.5cpl at the moment.

The price of LPG is ridiculous at even 70cpl if you have a mixer setup that loses about 25-35% economy to petrol =$1.00 pl, and if the same tax applied to it as petrol we would be paying the equivelent of $1.40 for LPG which is robbery worse than Petrol.

Gas Injection sounds like the go not losing economy but with its high cost savings will take longer to gain.

Petrol Companies arnt the real robbers the government is.

ULP $1.43cpl GST 14.3 TAX 38.7=53.1 TAX ,90CPL GATE PRICE [approx]

Not axed nor halved, but expected to cost $98M in 2008-09 v's $160M in 2007-08. And only funded to $98M next year. When that runs out ppl will have to wait until July '09 to get their rebate. So if going LPG, get in early.

according to this, funding has been increased to cope with demand. but funding to ethanol and other alternatives has been cut.
