The factory alarm (if still working) utilizes the bem wiring, To activate you simply turn the key to on (alarm) and lock the car with the fob.
1st one wont work.
2nd lock should work.
Chances are the battery is dead in the siren, as in stuffed.
The brain is in the kick panel of the drivers side. Its activiated via sentral door locking WITH hazards Im lead to believe.
I've had around 4 of these alarms and each 'usuable' with a bit of tinkering.
They are only that, remote entry enable/disable, also has a shock sensor.
Test is for battery backup, on = on off = off as you've figured.
Also, by the pic, thats one of the first generation alarms.

The alarm works. I'll have to check the battery. I'm assuming that all i need to do is turn the alarm to [TEST] & if I hear beeps then the battery is working.
I pickup some 2nd hand key fobs on Monday. I'll post results next week.
It's good to know that i can activate via the fob, saves me from looking like a nob - opening bonnet everytime I get out of the car.

Not really,
You put on test mode when plugged in, it'll run from the power source.
Either way, its best to replace the battery.
IIRC these items aren't really in the good books in regards to fire hazards.
1: overcharging a 7.2v battery
2: heat from exhaust doesn't do the battery justice
I replaced mine with an 8.4v NiMH 9volt (style) and have had great success.
better than the button cell blister inside.

nah not that simple, you have to unsolder the battery, and modify it a bit.
repco/autobarn won't sell any battery like this.
Jaycar/dse yes, or you can even replace it with the correct type from batteryworld (master instruments manufacture them) for around $25.

you can always run it without the battery, or even as it is.
downside is that if someone opens the bonnet, and unplugs the siren, the noise will stop.
eitherway, if the prick gets that far.. the cars long gone anyways.

Can you check the battery by opening up the alarm casing & using a multimeter or other device?
If the battery is that cheap, i might as well change it as i think your right about the battery probably being dead.
What are the chances of anyone stealing a 94 EF? If they make the effort to bypass the smartlock & alarm, they must be Ford Falcon Fanboys.
