you'll find some of the early heads have a higher flow rate, but they have much larger ports.

outright flow is not all you need,

i have found that the EF seems to have the most balls off the mark compared to EL and AUs which seem more sluggish to me...I have never driven an EL that impressed me as much as EF

from looking at the ports the AU is defintely better but not when u drive it....

Jim Mock did a interview with a car site about the flow rates of all of the 3.9/4.0 engines from EA to AU and their capabilities stock and modded.

They came to the conclusion that the EF head flowed best from stock but the AU was the best for mods.

Yeah was autospeed, the 'highest flowing' is said to be 94AB casting.

I dont think there is much difference between the 91AA or 94AB. Use what ever you have and spend some time narrowing down the valve guides, blending the valve seats, straightening the exhaust a little, laying back the short side radius on Inlet and Exhaust, a proper 3 angle valve job and opening up the combustion chamber on the opposite side to the spark plug.

Read that autospeed article and it should help a bit to understand what needs to be done. Although thats a AU head, most of it still applies to E series heads.

I've got a 94 ab cast in the EB2 wagon, it does go noticeably nicer then my sedan EB2 (91AB) but then again....the T5 in the wagon may have something to do with that *lol*
