Spoke to RTA TEchnical today and slotted and cross drilled rotors are fine to fit but braided brake lines are not and need a engineer report.

Think i might fit the braided lines anyway if its going to make a decent improvement, plus i would think anyone would notice anyway.

The DBA rotors as far as im aware have already passed ADR and ISO9000 watever certification...

If its just a rotor and pads replacement i'm fairly confident no engineer or inspection station would see an issue....if they are an upgrade of an existing factory component - installing significantly larger discs etc obviously then causes an issues espescially when uprights, hubs etc need to be modified as this presents many issues...brake lines/hoses come into this category along with hydraulic mods...as braided lines effect the way the braking system works....Hightek brakes have gone the right way about selling these as they are supply the ADR7 compliance certificates...

Still its always best for any performance or safety mod or anything that effects the structual integrity of the vehicle should seek either engineering opinion or one of the techo specialists from an approved inspection station...

I run DBA slotters alround and contemplating going to the 4000's but dont see strip/circuit work so not sure if there much point in the extra $100+ per rotor....I've run both EBC greenstuff as Bendix Ultimates to be awesome...EBCs I felt had slightly better grab in my setup with braided lines but were a tad worse on the brake dust...Couldnt recommend better pads though...

I'd like to see how the new Bendix SRT perform but at round $250 a pair yipes!! just cant justify for everyday road use, even though they are still a street tolerable pad

Just make sure whoever you purchase the lines from can supply you credible certification documentation that the lines they sell are certified to comply with ADR7.

Even then its just certifying the product regardless of your car...some guys will still want something saying its been certified as a safe modification to your vehicle

Good point as there on the shlef being sold in Auto parts stores so they must be ADR approved.

not quite right I'm afraid.

some of us in another forum due to my research found out that most modifications we do to our cars are illegal.

example: an exhaust system can not be modified from the factory fitted system.if it is modified IE: cat ,single muffler then straight out the back it has to be engineered to be classed legal.

the only legal mods allowed with out an engineers certificate are those that improve on the original IE: better brakes.

even k and n filters are illegal unless they certified.

mock me as you will its the facts as of september last year.

even my own exhaust system is illegal icon_eek.gif

unless nsw is f**k up i don't know what your getting at...obviously pod filters exposed are illegal in all states as its a safety issue...

Changing exhaust is not as long as it isn't over the dB limit and fulfils requirements of being an exhaust (cat converter, no holes, exits at a specified point on the vehicle etc). I got a roadworthy recently with my exhaust, no questions asked.

but then again maybe nsw is f**k and wants an engineers certificate everytime you change exhaust, tyre brands, wheels, springs, shocks, diff gearing............. icon_rolleyes.gif

Vehicle Compliance Certification
Pilot Scheme (VCCPS)
The instructions contained in this publication are applicable only for vehicles which will be certified
under the VCCPS. This pilot scheme operates in conjunction with the current Engineering
Certification Scheme (ECS).
Purpose
To advise of:
• The introduction of the Vehicle Compliance Certification Pilot Scheme (VCCPS).
• New inspection procedures (pilot scheme) for Modified Production Vehicles, Imported Vehicles or
Individually Constructed Vehicles (ICVs) to be used by:
Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Stations (AUVIS)
Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Stations (HVAIS) and
 the RTA’s Heavy Vehicle Inspection Scheme (HVIS);
• Transitional arrangements for Engineer’s Certificates issued under the ECS.
Background
All vehicles using New South Wales roads must comply with the applicable vehicle standards specified in Schedule
2 of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007. In this regard, Clause 52 provides that a person
must not use a vehicle on a road or a road related area unless:
• the vehicle complies with the applicable vehicle standards for the vehicle; and
• the vehicle and its parts and equipment are suitable for safe use and are in a thoroughly serviceable
condition.
However, vehicle owners may modify their vehicle provided any modification does not degrade the vehicle.
Owners should first obtain and read relevant RTA publications regarding modified vehicles. It is also advisable to
consult an RTA recognised signatory before undertaking any modification which may affect the vehicles
compliance with any applicable vehicle standard
.
RTA Signatories must certify that modifications have been carried out in the proper manner and that the vehicle
continues to meet the relevant applicable vehicle standards.

if you are to buy braided lines there should be a sticker on each hose with a date and compliance number. this should be closest to the body of the car. this is what the ADR approval is and if any mechanic who looks at the car see's that they will not have any issues with it, as it has the adr approval.

all our hoses we make hear we have to put a sticker on them and heat shrink over the top.

it sure is,and its all to do with stopping modifications.

basicly as soon as you change something from stock your vehicle becomes a modified production vehicle. icon_eek.gif

we really have it bad here, but thankfully most pink slip places don't give a s**t so let most things go through. icon_twisted.gif

but if they had a blitz on these things most of our cars would be off the road icon_mad.gif

doin up cars isnt a problem to the RTA Or the police if you do it right.

if you do anything to the motor and nothing to the brakes they will say something when you rego it.

the reason for this is a safety issue with over powered cars with under powered brakes. when they do a brake test on your car they have a series of numbers that show pedal pressure braking distance and torque for the system on that particular car and if you say wind up your boost and the mechanic drives it and it doesnt pull up in the time it is suppose to they will tell you to upgrade your brakes. i know alot of people who have high horsepower cars and the only thing the mechanics were worried about was it pulling up at a decent rate. i helped them out with better cast iron rotors and performance pads (so no enlargement or modification) and that was perfect as it improves braking and that was all they needed to pass.

if you do things internally to your car and as explained above it doesnt exceed the DB limit they can not pin you for anything. you just have to be wise about what you do to the car and how you go about it.

the only reason i know this as i learnt the hard way and copped heaps of defects and fines. icon_sad.gif

the trick is to not stand out to much.

i have a modded exhaust but its not loud enough to bring attention to the car, plus its as stock s a rock on the outside, which reminds me,need to get the rust fixed soon.

and just depends on the day of an inspection etc whether the bloke doing the inspection/copper thats pulled you over etc is in a crappy mood or not

At the end of the day if you mod your car without first asking around youre only asking to get stung later...or really posing a risk to yourself, others in your car and everyone else on the road...

its common sense to check before undertaking any major/minor modification...and if you do mod your car have a chuckle think hey that is so loud or illegal then why do it? .. u cant blame the laws, legislation etc

I know for the cost of a local phone call i'd rather check my mod is going to be ok or if it will require me to spend a lil more to have it engineered then spend huge amounts reversing mods, paying for the damage done when mods arent safe or go wrong...or having to pay for those lovely yellow stickers im tuch wood thankful not to have recieved yet..

So Mickkky what exactly do you plan to do to your car

Big Kev

Its my daily and as i drive it alot and want it to be a good reliable car. As i have decided to keep it for a few more yrs i want to replace the springs and shocks and also do a brake upgrade to help pull it up better.

So im spending abit of money on to so its a nice reliable car and also perform better.

I want to lower it abit to be XR height and have a decent braking setup too.
