I've used T5s Tremec 3550s and TKOs, the T5 has by far and away the best shift feel. If you can make if hold the power it would be my preferred box. The ED Sprint (and possibly T-series Falcons) used the Mustang Cobra T5 so I can't see fitment as being a problem.

Ok, the car is back!!!! icon_biggrin.gif Now, there's a few little things to sort now while on run-in... ACT sensor - no port in the Explorer manifold to plug it into so It has to be moved elsewhere. I'd say ideally it would be close to the intake but I've heard that AU has them mounted near the MAF/Airbox and it's better to have it as far away from the engine as possible? I can see how this would work because engine temp wont affect it and MAF/Temp measurement can be sampled at the same point, but air temp can change between airbox to intake, moreso without a phenolic spacer... any ideas?

Or doesn't it matter at all where it goes on the induction path?

Ok, an update:

run-in period complete, new TB/EGR/MAF and induction components fitted apart from a CAI component (Still in the mail grr)

Final power output at this time: 278.6rwhp with 595nm (430ftlb) of torque.

Top end power levels out and torque peaks and rolls off fairly early in the rev range due to exhaust flow restriction at high RPM we are suspecting right now. Fortunately the headers and cats are being replaced with a new set of difillipos and high flow cats some time this week. (For other, more critical reasons i.e. spark plug lead clearance)

Thoughts, comments, suggestions on the build so far all welcome icon_smile.gif I am happy with the outcome although I was hoping for 300+rwhp, I think it may still be in there somewhere...

Im aiming for 300rwhp or more N/A. Torquey enough as it is but I just want a nice round number hehe. icon_smile.gif Should be able to get it with a lil bit more work. New headers should help a fair bit. Then underdrives, ignition etc and we'll see how we go. New headers go on on wednesday.

Kit came with a mild performance Crow Cam. I think these were the specs:

Timing: IN.26/64 EX.66/24
Dur: IN.287 EX.279
Lift: IN.538" EX.538"

good power without ridiculous idle. So it's streetable.

It's pretty good. Has a failry smooth idle for a performance cam (Although it's a mild cam).. slight bit of lump to it. Makes more than enough power/torque to keep me happy icon_smile.gif I got the Valve upgrade too hehe. 1.98"/1.6" iirc. Could get more HP with a bigger bump stick I guess.

Exhaust tomorrow w00h00! icon_biggrin.gif

Torque at low RPM s**t me off a bit as the car bounces/staggers with driveline play. Used to only do it in 1st gear when it was a stock engine... now it does it in every gear lol. Go the 230,000km old Diff/Gearbox!!

^^Yeah. It's a piggyback module that you bung onto the a*** of your EEC and can custom tune it to suit different engine displacements et al... Unfortunately, it has limited support for earlier E-Series EEC's and the EF EEC I have had issues with compatibility. So I went with a switch Chip until I upgrade my EEC to a later one (I have been told ELII XR8 EEC is the best)

Out of curiosity, for this application would a TwEEcer really be better or does it not matter? It all comes down to the tuner I guess but in terms of flexibility and reliability...

new Dyno! A couple of tweaks after my new headers and a few teething problems being rectified and ended up with 311.3rwhp and 450ftlb (610Nm) of torque icon_smile.gif

got my 300rwhp so mission accomplished! icon_biggrin.gif

Nice power graph there tranzor, I'd be interested in the rear wheel torque figures rather than flywheel estimates. All in all I think it would make a great street car. icon_smile.gif

^^Cheers Dave,

It does. It turned out exactly as I wanted it to. Powerful but not over the top and still driveable on a daily basis.

MSD Ignition system arrived today. Blaster coil, MSD Cap and rotor plus a 6A Module. Question: Would it run without any issues after a straight swap? I imagine it would but I'd best ask here to be sure nothing might need seeing too afterwards. Will I need to regap my plugs?
