This is the pod filter I did today. I tried to put it in the box but I just couldn't fit it.

My question is: With the snorkel and the bottom of the box still there and bringing in cold air, is the hot air from the engine going to effect it that much? If so, how do I get it to fit? Can I grind down the supporty things on the top of the box so that it'll fit?

You just gotta get a pipe that you can tilt in down into that bottom part of the box, or as per the instructions use the pipe thats inside the top part of the box. Is it an EF or EL though? I think only the EF has the pipe inside the top box.

It's an EF. I've cut the pipe about halfway but even if the pipe isn't screwed onto the box, I can't get the angle I need to keep the pod there. Where does someone get one of those modified steel pipes the run the whole length so you don't have to have the plastic at all?

use the ef top half of the box just cut the rubber pipe inside to the first joint line closest to the opening then slide the pod on and tighten. and for a better fit grab a grinder and get rid of those high bits on the bottom of the box.

You could buy a 3in 45 degree bend (PVC storm water pipe) from Bunnings for $3. Then bolt the adaptor back on the lid with the 4*bolts. Cut the trumpet back so it protrudes about an inch into the lid. push the pvc 45 bend inside the rubber pipe and attach a hose clamp to it. Now attach the pod to the other end of the PVC bend.

Cheers...

Ebay:

All you can order them via autobarn. Autobarn use to sell them off the shelf but they only seem to have Drift, SAAS and K&N pods now. Also those blue DRIFT pods are made by Simota.

is there any advantage on the bellmouth piece?

did you just heat the EF pipe and mould it over something?

bellmouth aids airflow, that why all intakes have them.

that added bit is a peice of pvc 75mm stormwater pipe. the intake peice in the airbox is a standard EL-AU top just modified by removeing the material (where the current bellmouth is) and jamming glueing the new peice in.

had to change the stepper motor on my LPG and the old one couldnt get enough LPG into it with the amount of air being forced in with the XR8 snorkel at above 90kmh.

One thing I can say is the response above 3000 rpm is very impressive even on LPG.

I want someone to try this on a petrol car.
all you need is some time..... a cutoff off 75mm stormwater pipe... and a xr8 snorkal ($48 from ford) can even use your standard filter cos at the end of the day it will make bugger all difference.

bellmouth on the stormwater pipe was done on the stove (carefully) and a glass.

heat end , press on glass to round it out and when nearly done carefully heated and flattened a bit at a time on the kitchen bench

this is where I got the idea from
