|
|
| I'm looking at some new RAM for my ThinkPad - there's the option of TopRAM (http://www.topram.com/), Corsair (http://www.corsairmemory.com/), Kingmax (http://www.kingmax.com/kmt/index.htm), Kingston (http://www.kingston.com/) or Transcend (http://www.transcendusa.com/) - is there any preference brand wise or go for the cheapest (they're all within about $30.00 of each other for the 4GB)? |

| 2 things to look for are brand name, as suggested I would also go corsair ram, but also the ram speed, personally I would go as fast as the motherboard will allow. may cost a bit xtra but worth it in the long run, its a bit pointless going more if its slower than what you currently have. |

I prefer transcend.
4gb (2x2gb sticks @800) is under $90! I remember paying $250 for 16mb! |

Anyway, Corsair is good stuff, much cheaper than OCZ too.... and unless you have a quick or dedicated gaming machine there wont be much difference, except in you pocket. |

I've also got OCZ in my desktop, but it's not an option for this laptop as I havn't seen any in my price range. Actually havn't seen any to suit at all.
And all the brands mentioned above all are the same speed - so it's only the brand name and price distinguishing them.
Most votes for Corsair, and that's who I was looking at. But interesting to note is that no one had any negitives about any of the brands. Might be worth going the cheapest to save $35.00 then.

Vista recognises 4GB in my system fine.
O, and you'd never believe it, but I copy and pasted this thread from overclockers which I started this morning, so far on there there has been 35 views, and not a single reply. Yet a car forum has a bundle of replies. |

| ended up buying the corsair, it was the second most expensive - only $19 more than the cheapest (topram) for 2 x 2GB. The same seller had the cheapest price on the Kingston, not much less tahn the corsair, but it helped me to think that the corsair was the better. Kingmax was the dearest. |

| Warranty is probably the biggest thing to look for as RAM is fairly consistent between brands. The memory itself is all made by the same couple of companies so you're pretty safe with anything you get. |

Only unless it applies to the 32bit, and not the 64bit, has to do with the motherboard, the amount of cache on it an so on, from what I recall.. |
