Hey all,
Just purchased a crappy set of twin 12's  and wondering how I should amp them...

Obviously I'm not going for a really good set up. Just thought these were better than twin US audio subs for $150... Anyways, Everybody seems to have different opinions on how to amp them, some say I can use a 2 channel amp, others say I couldn't do it without a monoblock. So I thought I'd lay my trust in 'fordmod'ers 
So what kind of amp can I use/should use??  |

| i am running 2 12"clrion subs and a clarion 400w amp run power from battery to amp, earth from amp to near earth in boot, run the rca leade from amp th head unit, and run the rem(the little wire that tells the amp to turn on)from amp to head unit and some decent twin flex cable from amp to sub this is done twice once for each channel on ampand of course positive to positive , negative to negative |

Hey Mate, hows it goin. Its obvious your not going for an install to please an audiofile.If it was my install id just get a Good quality 2 CH brand name amp with plenty of punch. Feed a mono signal into both channels and strap it down.
Thats my 2 cents, But each to their own. |

Oh and dont forget to put a fuse on the POSITIVE (+) power lead to the amp. It should be as close as possible to the battery (within 30cm if u can manage it)
Just in case the cable rubs through on the fire wall or something, the fuseable link will give out first and not burn you pride and joy to the ground.

cheapest way out is to get a 4ch amp with low pass filter on the amp get rca splitters to run the rca cable to all channels.
My mate wen't the 2ch and monoblock options before and they absoultely suck (unless you spend decent money)
In my opinion monoblocks should not be run unless you have one for each sub |

| on my set up i have a ten on the shelf and a 12 in the boot both running off a 800 watt mono its pretty easy cause if i need to take the 12 out to put other stuff in i just unplug it |

Ohhhh wait I think I was misunderstood... I know how to wire it all up. I just wanted to know what type of amp to use... Can I use a 2 channel, or do I need to use a monoblock?

dude mono blocks are the best there designed just for subs what more could you want when running subs. i have 2 type r 12's running off one alpine mono block and they absolutly shake the s**t out of my mont.
it all depends on the brand and the wattage the amp sends out |

Thanks heaps for all the ideas Alright, lets see if I actually get it before I go blow some cash, so theoretically I could run EITHER:
A monoblock running both subs - Both subs from the one output;
A 2 channel amp - running one sub of each channel;
A 4 channel amp - using "RCA splitters" and somehow connecting the 2 subs, I assume by bridging the 4 channel to 2?? |

mate just shop around i started with a 2ch with a low pass filter on it so you flick the switch and away you go, but i did find the monoblock which i have now to be 10x better. But then again my sub cant handle my amp atm so just make sure you dont go over kill.

| and make sure you check nominal figures not peak power a 1500watt peak amp may only be rated for 50watt rated power, while a 800 watt peak amp may have 60 watt rated power |

i have only heard my mates car with a monoblock so i'll take your word for it. Who knows his amp may be way underpowered. |

Go a four channel amp, that way if you decide to upgrade in the future, you can get a monoblock to run the subs, and you'll have a 4ch to do the other speakers.
Giving those subs 1000W+ of power is a waste, you'll kill them. |
