hey guys, i got a std EF cam reground to 1636 profile and fitted it to my std EF. i reset the computer and followed te run in instructions however, while noticable up high (after3500rpm), it never really produced a good gain, i have recently swaped a tickford head onto the car with a bit more compression and im still not overly impressed by it. wot do you suggest? also the shims i used are 0.75mm washers as 2 sets of std shims dont allow the valves to close.

your supposed to use 2 standard shims which are 1.9mm thick each

Install it correctly first then see how you go, are you sure the timing is correct? Then you having fueling, ignition, sensors to check if they are up to scratch.

This cam gives great gains, and the cause of the lack of power must be stemming from something else

whats best cam for my el its manuel 3.08diff gears to be changed to 3.23 got pacemakers ph4480 2 1/2 inch exhaust metal cat single muffler its the hybrid motor too

i originally put 2 sets of 1.9mm shims in and had no compression as i previously stated. Cam timing is correct, i also played with this a little but ended up back at std TDC cam timing. fueling, MAP, ignition, all working fine.

mate, Wade grinds off 0.075" off the lobes, which means you need an extra 1.9mm shim to make up that extra gap. Saying that this is incorrect means everyone has theirs setup wrong?

Did you release the pressure in each hla before refitting to the rocker arm? Cause they have a tendency to spring out when you remove them to fit the shims, and this could be the reason why they were pushing onto the valves although i would think they are self adjusting anyway.

im not saying everyones is wrong, just mine was. didnt think it was possible to bleed the hydraulic lifters in EF's? will have to give this a go.

Yeah stick something thin like a hole punch into the ball housing, and that will let the oil pass through as you push it back into the tappet body.

Also keep tape wrapped around the rocker arm until the hla is pushing down lightly onto the valve and remove tape. Car will be noisy for a few minutes until they pump back up with oil

Sorry to hear about your cam problems.

I would confirm what "FordFairmont" has said, the standard engine should have a 1.9mm shim already. The 0.075" we machine off the base circle of the cam lobes equates to an additional 1.9mm which is why we advise the fitment of an additional 1.9mm standard shim.

When you talk about 0.75mm washers....in overall terms, what thickness do you end up with, not including the existing shim?

Just to confirm.....your cam is an AU, in an E series engine with E series ECU?

i have one set of std 1.9mm shims and a set of 0.75mm washers for an overall of 2.65mm for each valve. so your saying i need to bleed the lifters by putting a pin or something in the holes around the base?

"FordFairmont" made reference to bleeding the lifters, not me.

There's something odd going on if you need to resort to something other than the additional 1.9mm shim that we recommend.

Do you get the cam from us direct?

Ok i know pretty much nothing about cams haha. what exactly is a cam regrind and exchange? what would i do if i wanted camwork done to my 95 EF fairmont?

What cam would you recommend for my planned setup:

Iron head 250 crossflow, with the iron head removed and replaced with a worked alloy head (just a clean up of the ports and upgraded springs) and weber carb from an XF (most likely a C1 head), extractors, 2.5" exhaust, auto, LPG, in an XD stationwagon which will occasionally tow and is the family runabout.

Looking for something that will give improved performance while still being usable with the auto and capable of towing, while still having some manners around town.

Thanks Wade. Just fitted a 1636 to my ebii fairmont which already had tickford head and pacemaker 4480;s. It now goes REALLY WELL....Pulls like a train from 2500rpm up icon_biggrin.gif Only down side is aircon stalls motor at idle but I can live with that until I fix it. Again Good Product icon_biggrin.gif
