Pretty dumb if htey dont.

They could have fitted a ED style intake and reduced plumbing by nearly half

Gotta go backwards to go forwards eh? I don't think ford are too keen on using stuff first used in 1989 around 14 years later on a totaly new car.

Apparently the BA manifold is slightly different but mostly because the inlet port is a different shape on the twin cam head.

The BA manifold definately have the dual runner butterflis removed. This is because a 21 inch runner combined with boost means TOO MUCH torque too early for the engines to withstand let alone the rear tyres. That was one of my problems which lead to the pinging which broke my first engine.

I played around with my engine in engine analyser and there way too many things coming into their sweet spots all around the 3000 - 3600 rpm mark. Turbo was really screaming up onto boost, cam was kicking in niceley and the longer runners were loving it all at the same time then my 4500 rpm the torque just fell over and max power was at around 4800 rpm. My maximum volumetric efficiency and torque were at 3600 rpm which is also around where the engine was pinging before it broke.

My theory was that the turbo was going to come on boost around 3000 rpm no matter what I did so I decided to make the runners shorter and the cam bigger so they carry the top end power after the turbo reached full boost. This is a better situation than a lot of the dyno queens you see where the torque curve is the same shape as the boost curve and they basically start losing torque as soon as max boost is reached.

From what I gather the bottom section of the manifold is fine but the plenum with the centre feed throttle body favours the middle two runners so give them more air, making them lean. If you look at all of the kits runnning around for the BA they all have modified plenums. The 1000 hp BA engine by Nizrpo still uses the BA bottom half of the manifold with their custom top plenum and front mount throttle body. Pretty impressive really. I called about one of those manifolds when I first saw them and they wanted about $1500 for the top bit alone so I made my own really basic design which is working sweet and cost me around $300.

If you remove the butterflies from the Dual runners manifold the runners are around 13" long. If Nizpro build a custom manifold with decent diameter bellmouthed 6" - 8" runners then my calcs suggest they will gain another 100hp in the top end but sacrifice a bit of low down torque.

soo... $600

hmm, thats alotta beer money!

I got 6 new Bosch injectors that flow ~40% more than stock I6 ones - that equates to ~24lb - teamed with a second fuel pump inline, I noticed an instant smoothness and little pinging (well this is all before proper dyno tuning).

Yes it makes a lot of difference - add fuel and pump and you're instantly ahead with the right hardware.

Pump second hand $100 and injectors $200 (brand spankaz!).

Cheers,
Steve

The 24lbs injectors are 2.6L Magna 4 cylinder injectors. Six should cost you about $200 2nd hand at the most (really ~$160) for ones in perfect condition. They are Bosch 775 blue tops.

A rough guide is 30lbs will support 300rwhp, 36lbs will support 360rwhp, and so on at reasonable fuel pressures (40-55psi) and good safe A/F ratios.

I have only ever seen an actual "Extrude Hone" here on the Gold Coast but the company uses it only on plastic molding. Andrew Sanders from Specialised Power Porting is supposed to be very good.

Mine are green.

SVO - I got mine through my mechanic...if you're interested in a set, lemme know - I'll ask him.

Cheers,
Steve

There are two types of Magna injector. The ones they ran factory fitted and then there is another injector which flows exactly the same amount and are commonly used as a cheaper alternative in Magna exchange injectors.

EIS in Queensland informed me of this when I was looking for a set of bigger injectors.

Give EIS a try, if in Queensland, they sell them fairly cheaply brand new.

I don't know the part numbers or colours of the top of my head unfortunately.

You will need atleast 30 Lb injectors before you even start to make some serious power...
Keep in mind what fuel pressure injectors are run at to compare flow rates....Mitsi I think run at higher f/p.....

I beleive Jim mock motorsport can get manifolds extrude honed... their EB has a BBM on it that i beleive has been ported using this method.. perhaps contact them, from memory it costs roughly $600..

also a mate of mine is using the magna blue tops in his EA, he's using a aftermarket fuel reg (unsure on specs) and a unichip as he'd maxed out the stock ones (~170rwkw)

not running lean, but it hits 100% duty

i get my car back soon with a extra Throttle body and im guessing its goin to be leaner, so i need a cheep way to keep fuel there till i go turbo(in about a yr)
