|
|
Hi Guys.
I need some help! I have a Falcon EF '96 model and this morning while driving to work i heard a rattling sound coming from the area of the aircon compressor, it seems to come and go randomly, when i investigated further i found that the noise only happens when i turn the air distribution control to demist and the fan speed control to on. Anyone had this problem?
Regards

Bearings make a noise in the compressor, kinda rattling sound..
Interior is usually leafs in the fan.

| aircon comes on when demist is selected and fan is turned on in my GLI, so i imagine turning the aircon on with either of the aircon buttons will also have the same effect, something up with the aircon compressor.. |

I was just pointing out that the aircon comes on at that time, but I assume you hear the same noise either with demist and fan on OR either aircon push buttons on...
Krytox said bearings, sounds like that could be it, mechanic will tell you for sure, wouldnt use the aircon til you get it checked, just incase it fails and leaks gas or something else goes wrong...
does anyone know if the clutch can make noise on the aircon compressor? i know mine makes a noise when it cycles on... but its a one off CLACK when it engages, nothing else...
good luck with it |

| Just want to let you know that aircon coming on with demist function is normal ( for an EB anyway...same on yours? ) Check your glovebox manual it should say this is supposed to happen to aid demisting. Just in case you were worrying about something else. Bearing or leaf my guess too but guess only. Good luck with it. |

zxhoon, your aircon comp is working perfectly. thas the sound it should make.
compressor noise is either the clutch bearing on front is rooted, or the pistons inside cmp are worn. |

| cheers hellbent_ef, I thought that was probably the case, its surprising how loud it is sometimes, then again it is engaging with the engine running :p |

There is no pistons in the pump, its a scroll compressor.
Clutch should only slap when engaging if the pump is faulty in any way, it will seize and the pulley will continue to turn eating the clutch.
Biggest problem if this happens is not the noise, (it will scream) but when you turn the engine off, it will burn the belt like a mofo.
This won't be the case,
Im sure the sound you describe is like a spray can full of 'large' ball bearings slowly rattling around when the AC is on yeh? |

It is not the bearing because the bearing is for the pulley on the compressor it will make the noise all the time.
I think it is the compressor internaly or it is building to much high side pressure which will make a thumping noise. The only thing you can check is if the radiator fans are working if they are see a auto electrician to put a/c gauges & check the system. |

well, krytox...yeah, i forgot they are sandens. If your comp still turns by hand then most likely rear valve plates, if it doesnt turn, most likely the scroll has snapped(cheap alloy s**t) causing all the ball bearings to lock up where ever they can.
as for the clutch always making noise, nope, unless your clutch bearing has no grease, then it shouldnt make noise except for engaging. If your bearing s**t itself, you will know instantly because it will 9 times out of 10 take the clutch coil with it(heats up)
if bri-jon's compressor depart didnt shut, id still be working there and could get you one. you shouldnt realy pay more than $350ISH for a reco one. |
