Here are some pic's of my brothers EF turbo. I have just finished fitting the Megasquirt. My brother did all the fabrication work and I did the electronics. At the moment there is no intercooler but the plan is to fit water/methanol injection. The pipe work still needs cleaning, painting and polishing.

The megasquirt controls the factory coil packs and I made an adaptor loom so the megasquirt just plugs into two plugs in the engine bay. I mounted the megasquirt in the glovebox for easy access. I drove it around the block for the first time tonight with just the base settings in the megasquirt and it drove quite well considering no tuning has been done.

I don't have any pictures of the outside. It's just a stock grey EF fairmont. Its been sitting for a while so it's dirty and looks a bit sad at the moment.

Cheers

Daniel.

I guess I could do a right up when I get some time. But all the info required is in the megasquirt manuals. There is no EDIS module, I just added the extra two ignition drivers to the megasquirt so it could control the three coils directly. The way I did the loom makes it basically plug and play.

The factory ECU is still in place controlling everything except fuel and spark. (ie Auto, idle, gauges, fuel pump, fans, etc)

Cheers

Daniel

There is no more info. It's just a stock fairmont with a turbo fitted. I have only driven it about 1klm total with the megasquirt, so I'm not even sure what boost it is running yet as I didn't go over about 30% throttle. Once my brother sorts out the rego I can get stuck into tuning and see what it does.

Before the turbo and megasquirt it was just stock. I will post updates once I have done some tuning.

Cheers

Daniel.

I have put together a guide for installing Megasquirt on an EF falcon. This is my first draft so let me know if you find any errors.

I got my car registered today so now I can start some real tuning.

I have done a bit of tuning on the car now and I can drive it. I still can't use full throttle/boost but I'm slowly working up to it. I have a few issuses to sort out. Number one is some form of intercooling, my inlet temps range from 60deg to 100deg. Next will be bigger injectors although I'm yet to find the actual limit of the standard ones. (the engine hasn't been past 2500rpm with full throttle).

I may also need an external waste gate. I locked the internal gate open so I could get the base tuning sorted and the turbo still makes 9 psi boost over 3500rpm.

Other than that I can report that the megasquirt is happily coexisting with the factory ecu and all the factory functions are still working fine (Auto, Gauges, Trip computer, etc). The engine starts fine even from cold with just the base start and warm up settings in the megasquirt.

Cheers

Daniel.

Good stuff, progress is a good thing.

Are you tuning it with a dyno, or just on the road with a laptop?

Just tuning on the street. I use the brakes or hills when I need to load it up. Megasquirts have some handy logging and tuning software.
