Hey guys,
I noticed that there are USB ports on the front of my PS2. Now i cant install a hard drive because i got a slim line version so i was wondering... is it possible to get an external hard drive and plug it in via the USB? Im guessing there will need to be a certain program or operating system on the hard drive... Any help would be appreciated,
thanks

Umm, why do you want a hard drive on a PS2, unless you want to run linux on it of course?

You'll need to do more then add a hard disk to get it to do that...

Such as install and run linux. If you need further explaination then that, I think an xbox or PC would be a much better option for you, much less work required.

Well, your question doesn't make much sense, if that's what you want to do an xbox is much more suitable in the first place, using a PS2 just doesn't make sense for that sort of thing.

I know what you mean, but the PS2 isn't designed to be used with a hard disk (asides from the original larger PS2s when used with the linux kit), so while you could put a hard disk in a USB enclosure and connect it to the PS2, no matter what was on the drive the PS2 wouldn't know what it is or what to do with it, unless you changed the PS2s bios, which although not impossible, I've never seen done before to suit this sort of thing.

No probs, sorry if I seemed like I was being dense and just telling you to get an xbox, I don't have an xbox myself, only the PS2, and would love to do what you're thinking of, however I know it's not practical unfortuntely.

You can download SMS http://home.casema.nl/eugene_plotnikov/ and there is a new exploit http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/58292-official-free-mc-boot-releases.html that can be used to boot homebrew.

There is also another unreleased exploit that can be used also to boot any file off a memory card.

You would have to run some form of OS on the HDD.
Then you would need to download all the codecs etc.
Run a boot loader for the hdd.
Im sure it can be done.

But the xbox1 was the best media center ever !!
360 is pretty good also. I just have it hooked up to my network and i can scroll threw all the movies and tv eps i have whenever iw ant and watch them on the tv no dramas !!

I have never used an XBOX but I have to agree if you wanted a Cheap Media centre then that is the way to go, but as I said if you have a ps2 and wanted to set one up you still can quite easily.

SMS can be run from a Memcard or USB device using an exploit , which will play dixv/xvid and quite a few other formats inlcuding aac and mp3. You can also attach network shares to it.
