| Haha i hope i got the name right.I heard of this type of porting in an old mag,performance buildups or something similar.Pretty sure it was called extrude hone porting and they used an abrasive media like grey snot which they forced through the ports in the heads -manifolds and it was like it had been hand ported after the process was done.Anyone ever had this type of porting done or heard of it being used? |

Its very popular in the US, however I don't believe there is anyone in Australia currently offering it. There was a guy in South Oz who did a similar thing called abrasive porting, I think he used compressed air and a media similar to sand blasting garnet to get a similar result. However his pricing was more than CNC work can be done for now.
The big advantage of extrude honing/abrasive porting is it can do complex curves such as dual plane intakes or Ford 5.0L upper manifolds without having to cut them up. |

| Wimmera machine shop in Horsham Vic know were to get it done. Im getting the lower part of explorer manifold done when getting motor stroked. $400 to do lower manifold, pretty pricey thou. will ask them were they get it done. |

Very good link on subject ebxr8380. Gunna can the extrude honing job on lower manifold and have a go at a port job myself.  |

The downside to extrude hone porting is that you cant really control what the final shape is.
There is a good example of this on Tom Moss' website. The Explorer/Cobra/GT40 style lower intakes need more material taken from the 'roof' of each runner, but the extrude honing biased the flow and therfore the material removal to the bottom of the port.
A combination of hand porting to get the port/runner shape, and then finishing off with extrude honing would probably be good. But maybe overkill.....i dont imagine it would be good bang for buck.
For an all-out stock-appearing type build it would be the s**t |

I went with the Tom Moss option with the cobra manifold when fitting the new AFR heads.Cost about $400 with labour and postage.Excellent bloke to get on with.
Runner gain over stock (cfm):
