|
|
Hey guys,
I blew a fuse for my dome light while playing with the boot globe (which is on regardless of whether the ignition is on so be careful by the way, think you need to disconnect the battery to safely swap it) and pulled out fuses to check them without thinking. I ended up possibly mixing up fuses.
Now, I don't have an owners manual or anything for the car and the BA's don't have a fuse box diagram on the cover (lame).
Anyway the smartlock won't deactivate even though the key is in it. I've tried locking and unlocking the car, swapping some fuses around etc and RACV told me I need to get the key reprogrammed by Ford. (expensive, especially in my town) I think it's a bit ridiculous that a fuse could do that much damage but anyway.
I'm downloading a workshop manual so I can make sure all the fuses are in the right spots (there's gap due to the fact it's an XT, I assume the gaps are for extras on higher models hence the mix up).
I have instructions to reprogram a remote but not a key. If anyone has any knowledge or advice it would be greatly appreciated as I am without a car currently!
Cheers,
Tyler
*UPDATE*
Okay, well it cost me $44 for Ford to reprogram the car. Apparently my entire cars memory was wiped not just a smartlock problem. The mech said he'd never seen it before and that it was unlikely it would happen again. Yet on the forums and people I've met have told me it is a problem. He said there was nothing I could do to avoid it, it shouldn't happen again.
So guess that's that.
Tyler

If you only have one key you cant do it! Your car will have to be towed to ford.
If you have the two original keys you can train extra keys. |

Does anyone else find that ridiculous? Lol. Towing is expensive as. Stupid security feature. I should ask for it to be removed -_-. You can apparently buy boxes on ebay for $90 that bypass the system lol.
There's an emergency reprogramming procedure the Haynes workshop manual but it doesn't seem to work. I suppose because the key has been wiped? I'm trying it again now but I'm not holding my breath. |

so is insurance for a car without an immoboliser.
having a transponder type immobiliser makes the car much harder to steal which in turn reduces insurance premiums. |

| not sure if it will work but disconnect battery for 1/2 an hour to reset ECU and try again. The only other thing is is the smartlock light constantly on or is it flashing because if the smartlock light is constantly on then the fuse CRT LMP may be blown |

Easiest attempt would be to get someone with an XT to come to your place and see what fuses go where. Or you can get a bucketload of 30A fuses and fill all the slots and see what works. I highly doubt that taking a fuse out, or blowing a fuse will result in your car 'forgetting' your keys immobiliser codes.
Worst case scenario i'll take a photo of my fuses in my futura and send it to you on the mobile - provided you can recieve MMS..
Good luck |

I don't think there's anything wrong with the key.
My money's on it being the fuse for the smartlock blown or missing. |

RACV told me it needed to be towed to ford. The light was constantly blinking. He said the fuse the light just stays on so yeah. But this problem can actually happen. After asking around apparently just having an interior light blow a fuse can cause it. If you're unlucky. I guess ford needs to get some money from repairs in ford workshops somehow.
Very disappointed.
It has been towed and is in being looked at. I'll be sure to let everyone know what happened, how to avoid it etc.

Good point. I have nothing against an immobilizer that doesn't lock me out of the car by blowing the fuse on my interior lights!
Lol. |
