The ZF uses surface mount LEDs for the white illumination (the little yellow ones). The 3mm round LEDs you see are for the red 'selected gear' illumination.

Also, to get to it

Pop off the surround (grab it from under the ICC and pull up).
Disengage the leather boot, by squeezing it's sides.
Grab a smallish screw driver, and jam it down the front of the shifter housing, to disengage the two clips, then it'll come off easily. Navigate the base of the leather boot around to get it off fully.

wait till it starts bubbling up around the surround like the rest of them do that we have to replace lol

The BA and BF four-speed shifter, after some years, seems to get a bubble on the silver plastic near the 'D' selection. No doubt it's caused by the globe heat.
The BF six-speed shifter is illuminated by LEDs, with very little to no heat, so the plastic probably won't bubble.

Actually, the brushed-aluminium BF door-handle inserts bubble after awhile as well. It looks like it's a problem with the plastic-bonding process or something similar.

I had a BF Loaner from the local dealer and the bubbles on it's door handles were truly spectacular.

Funny, the BF wagaon we have at work exhibits the bubbling, yet my GT-P is perfectly fine.

I've seen that bubbling on quite a few taxi-cabs around the place. Even on the actual gear shifter itself. Pretty poor build quality in my opinion.
