Hi all,
Want to pick peoples brains for a moment...
In my home fitted cheapie supercharger thread here:

I've gotten the supercharger in and ready to go, but I need a belt roughly 6 inches longer than the standard ford one.
I'm asking in the i6 workshop because I figure this is where the general hands on guys hang out..
What other vehicles in AU would have a belt I should look at as possibly suitable for my needs to work with the M90. (Only need 6 or so more inches than the standard one)
I'll probably get a wider proper SC one from the US anyway later on, but I would like to have a locally available option around to start with and if ever I snap one.
Does anyone know where I should start looking?

| The VCT belt in the AU is longer by a few inches and is the correct profile. You may be able to gain some more by reducing the bracket/spacer on the AC. |

That's not bad.. If the power steering belt was smaller it would help.. but I want to change as little as possible to keep the charger conversion simple.
I'll take the standard belt into all the car places I know of and try it against every other serpentine belt I can find. |

Or a dress makers tape ( the loose white tape) and do something similair...
how much do you need? (lengt wise) what about truck belts? Most are ribbed types and who knows you might get an ideal belt |

it's only about 6 inches short... it's maddeningly close..
It gets to the edge of the alternator pulley, but can't get around it..
Thought of the string size already, but I know it's only 6 inches more than the standard one, so not really necessary..
trucks is a good idea.. will definately add that to my list. |

| find an industrial supplier that sells belts by length rather than for a particular car. Usually have them hanging up by size rather than model. Would be handy to run the string to have a starting point and then go from there. |

would be nice however to be able to tell anyone that follows me to just got the serp belt off a v8 dunnydore or something like that... |

Why not just measure the belt that you need and get one? Generally, Bosch, Dayco and Gates, make belts in a large variety of sizes. You might find that the auto stores won't stock them but can get them quick enough.
For example, both the belts that I've run on my Powerdyne set up are not standard belts fitted to any particular vehicle. They're just the sizes that I've needed for my setup, and I ordered them from Gates through my work. Likewise with Paul and his blower - as I've ordered a belt for him.
What is the standard belt part number - 6PK2xxx, just add 150 to that number (for 6"s), and find a belt of that size (+ or - a bit). But you would be better off measuring the exact size in mm of the belt that you require - rather than "about 6"'s".
BTW - don't be suprised if you get quoted up to $180.00 for a belt - the random unpopular sizes can be bloody expensive. |

That'd be great Froudey.. I'll do that.
twr7cx, The expense of the non standard sizes is exactly why I'm trying to get one from a production vehicle.. I want this to be an achievable conversion for people and a 180 dollar fan belt doesn't help.
However if a V8 dunnydore belt fit, then it'd be dirt cheap by comparision.
I have a bit of leeway here, I am not using the factory pulley tensioner anymore (just using it as a fixed pulley to get more grip on the charger pulley..
I am putting the EA-ED air con belt tensioner in to tension the belt so give or take an inch is no big deal.

OK, the standard belt is 236 Centimeters (93 inches) around, I need a belt that is 256 ish.. 100.8 inches (8 inches longer as it turns out..)
It can be an inch or so longer as I can take that up with the tensioner.

Oh, forgot to mention.. I can still get the dizzy cap off with the SC in place.. it is probably impossible when it's in the car, but if I get my hand up under the intake I can get to the back clip to remove the cap...
I can also do the timing if need be because the bolt is accessible from the top though the intake runners. |

Frank,
Try doing what twr7cx suggests and take the full measurement into any parts store and see what vehicles their catalogues list a 6pk2560 belt for.
You may find a 6pk2555, a 6pk2570 or 6pk2565 etc in their application list that will do and is not too dear.
This is what I did when I put the EF alternator on my EB2, in my case it was a 3pk940 needed instead of an 3pk860 IIRC. Bursons had them on the shelf for about the same price as the std one.
Check the length and prices of the next 2 sizes up and down so you don't order a rare one.

| The V8 belt is longer... I think! It's kind of hard to be sure looking at the diagram in my spec guide. I was hoping it listed the lengths. |

how many ribs and width i will find it and like give you the part number so you can go to ya local isuzu or freight liner dealer and get one from spares |

sweet, it is a 6 rib and its exactly 2cm wide.
I'm gonna do what twr7cx and paul have said as well..
somewhere will be one that is common in some vehicle or other.
Interesting question though.. did the supercharged dunnydores have a seperate belt for the charger or did they just have a longer belt? |
