Actually this is very interesting.. might not even have to leave the ford parts bin..

seems to indicate that the belt I need can come straight off a Ford Taurus.. (though I cringe to put anything from a Taurus on my car icon_smile.gif

I could go to repco/supercheap/coventries and get a price on a fan belt for a 94 taurus and see what they have..

Now your on the money Frank, try to get a belt that just fits so you don't have too much slack. Keep the receipt handy in case you want to change it. LOL
According to your measurements this could be the one though and cheap enough to get a spare.

Thanks Paul..

Even if it's an inch too long, it isn't a big deal because I'll just swap sides with the ED tensioner and instead of putting it above the alternator, I'll put it in the belt above the charger pushing down so as to increase the contact area between the belt and the pulley. (less chance of slipage)

I'll make it work one way or the other, it just needs to be close.

Good on you Frank, it's a great piece of work and the only major mod. I'd want to do to our cars.
If I ever do, you can be sure I'll be copying a lot of what you've done. LOL

Looked at the belts at work some have potential but it all comes down to the width and how many ribs...

they are freightliner belts by the way

Well in ya travels try this mercedes truck number
A0089973792 it meaures just over a metre (holding each side of the belt stretched out.)

50 + gst i think is a price figure it should be around.

Hi All,

That Taurus ebay thing is wrong... the 94 taurus has a shorter belt.. (unfortunately)

Turns out I need a GMC Suburban
Belt Multi Acc Feb 1998 - Jan 2001, 6.5L, 8 cyl, 16V, OHV, Turbo, Diesel, K8, EngCode: FCWG belt..


Dayco over east sell them..

Have you tried that 6pk2570 part number with Repco or Burson type of distributors in WA or your local parts supplier yet?

yes, I called supercheap, repco and coventries..

Still have Veale to go yet, but not so good so far.

Repco do Dayco, but not this model..

I could go do a holden dealer and pick one up for a Suburban.. and will if that is all I find, but think the Dayco could be the better option if I can find a dealer for them over here.

Veale down the street has one for a surburban for 55 bucks..

Dayco 6PK2565 belt..

sweet.. I guess that is the cheapest one I'll get in Australia...

dude, the length of the belt is part of the part no:

the xPK (4pk, 5pk 6pk) is the number ribs. 4PK has 4 ribs. the number that follows IS the length. just add 15cm to that number and ask for the belt by part number and not by make and modle

I know that dude,

I wanted to find a "standard" belt to use, that way should I ever by somewhere (like the country) that doesn't stock non standard sizes.. I'll be able to get a belt to suit.

Now that I know that the size I want is the standard belt for a holden 6.5lt suburban.. I know that all I need to do in an emergency is find the nearest holden dealer.

OK, I bought the belt 6pk2565.. it turns out that for the method I was planning, my original estimate was more correct than the measurement.. if it had been only 6 inches longer than standard, I'd have been fine.. since I got 8 inches, one tensioner would not have been enough

However, it's serendipitous as it turns out that it caused me to rethink the way to do this, and my new method uses the full length of the 2565 belt and has the following benefits.

- uses the standard belt tensioner as an actual tensioner.
- doubles the contact with the main crank pully.
- Much closer to the original setup.

Still have to use the EA-ED air con guide pulley, but it should be fairly simple and may actually weld up to the supercharger mounting plate. Still have some measuring to do, but this should work out nicely.

Wish there was a way to lock the factory tensioner in it's compressed state, would be easier to work with.

My problem now is the air con belt.. just how much contact does the air con need to avoid slipping? It's a bigger pulley, so it spins slower and there is still 4 inches of belt contact.. that should be enough I think.. not sure. I guess we will see.

I think there are spray on products to stop belts from slipping. I mention this because it might be handy during the testing phase, because your setup might seem fine at first, then just when you're a long way from home a change in air temp, or wearing in, or dust, or moisture, or some combination, might somehow generate a problem for you.

I'd be really really surprised if the supercharger slipped since it has a good deal of contact to the belt.

My only concern is that the air con might slip if turned on as it has less than it did.. but then again, I don't imagine air compressors need as much force to spin as a supercharger..

I have some of that belt grip stuff... hoping I won't need it.

It sounds like you're onto it. I have heard though that people often understimate how much they resist turning.

Oh yeah, of course . . . turning the a/c off should help if need be.
