I have read this and got a laugh or 2 LOL.

Now it seems to me he has spent a bit on the bottom end, now one thing you young guys prob don't know, HP is actually cheap but reliability isn't!

Can you justify a V8 Supercar engine being worth $100k plus for 650 odd HP?
Oh but my mate built 650 hp for $20k! Well lets see how long it lasts when he punishes it.

Yeah yeah i know he has wanked on a bit about this thing, but if you want a nice strong reliable engine then you have to spend cash, you can get anything to go fast on a budget, but it won't last long!!!!
Also add in the fact that if you're paying someone to do this, the cost goes through the roof, doing it yourself ends up a lot cheaper, but then if you don't have a bit of knowledge behind you then you wont get far.

Just out of curiosity, would a different cam be worthwhile????

I having a stockish cam might be the next area that could be improved on??

Maybe something a little more aggressive and a tune might make it a bit more potent but still have manners and economy.

You may wonder were I got the inspiration to blueprint it from?
It was from an old fella that races his AU2 XR8 220kW (Vic Tickford club) on a regular basis. He put out 174rwkw at the G@D dyno day some years ago. Thanks for the tip bud, wherever you may be.
My fuel economy has actually gotten worse by .5L.

umm ....i wonder where you got the inspiration to Call IT BLUEPRINTED !! ....when you dont even know the C.R ????

I CC'D the chambers , port matched , ported and set spring heights on my 40p's .....but i dont consider that blueprinted

in my mind blueprinting is when every measurement is to specification precisely and it bothers me when people use the term lightly !!

as in your case icon_rolleyes.gif

Get real mate were not running a 2,500 hp nitro funny car here mate.

To those that are baligerant, ignorant or just plain stupid EF-EL series XR8 falcons are from 150kg to 200kg lighter then their AU XR8 equivelents. This can and does slice off up to 1 full second off the quarter mile.

This is what all the s**t that has since gone under the bridge is all about. The E series boys are DILLUSIONAL and are quite adament that their engines are at the heart of their tremendous 400m times.

Not one has admitted that weight maybe a factor.
AU FAIRMONT GHIA 5.0L 1660kg 15.6 400m
AU FAIRLANE GHIA 5.0l 1720kg 16.2 400m

Wow .5 a second and its only 60kg heavier. (taken from more then one editorial) This also goes for the Holden equivelants.

if you think that 150kg will make that much of a difference you are the one who is delusional. icon_confused.gif It will make a difference, but not that much. and dont make excuses anyway. times talk. we dont care about why you think that your slower

and fairy v8 is right, regardless of what engine your running, blueprinting is blueprinting. We use to blueprint our go-kart engines, they were only 11hp. but i spose that meant just pulling them apart and putting them back together because its not 2500hp under your logic!!

Well the base weight of my EF xr8 is 1556kg (as in my owners manual) and im sure you cant help a car being heavier. Its your choice and the vehicle you chose, its weight is what comes with it.

When you take into account the stock times of an AU forte V8 (15 flat - high 14's). A stock E series 5.0l will be lucky to run mid 15's, lucky to a 15 if it is a manual. Weight does make a difference but not a full second.

A 95 fox body mustang that weighs in at under 1400kg will run a 14.2, it is faster because of its lower weight, but thats part and parcel with the car. People sitting in the back seat is no longer a reality...

I'm a massive fan of run what ya brung, we can't all be driving LJ torries and ford Capri's with big blocks in them (I'd need a spatula to get in one).

I think you need to get real mate!!

So lets say i put my 55kg missus in the drivers seat of my ute (relying on that she can drive it) that now it is possible that my ute could run upto .5 second quicker as she 75kg lighter than me? I very much doubt it.

Yeah the weight differences do have an impact on the time, but for god sake stop making up excuses before you even run.
Hit the track, run the times, cop the s**t then shut up, easy as that.

Surely you have better things to do with your time that come on here posting this absolute crap, i.e get a f$@*ing ROOT!! icon_lol.gif

All comes down to POWER to WEIGHT. People seem to forget that (but not most SMART fordmodders) the odd newbie with a semi resonable car thinks there car can run rings around the others (that is a yound p plater or rice or commodore drivers attitude also)

Yeah losing weight can help but only if it is an extreme amount of weight i was told and read etc etc

For every Kilo lost is like half a hp gained but this doesn't work in some situations.

Well, if they didn't have the engines they have in them, they wouldn't be getting those times now would they?

I know, I know, they should have a handicap system for weight when you go to the drags and then you can work out what your "real" time should be. icon_confused.gif

Here we go again, chasing our bloody tails!

My mate who just bought a Mazda RX-7 Spirit R today chopped me this arvo, so I guess with a 300kg weight disadvantage, I really did better as without that 300kg I'll be in the 10s

Yes, yes thats right. You should have pulled him up afterwards and explained that you technically, actually won that race due to weight differences.

schnnods is right. Run what you brung. That includes the driver.

Otherwise jockeys would be at the drags as well taking peoples cars down.

I've run a 15.8 in my stock EL XR8 manual with me in it.

Haven't had a go since I've modded it. But its a 15.8 car while I own it cause its me driving it. If someone else bought it and was a better driver and got a 15.5 then its a 15.5 but for me it was a 15.8.

Walker is also right in that blueprinting the engine would give you reliability as well.

But hey we are all Ford boys here loving our Windsors lets not forget that too!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Take it easy with the spelling fellas I don't use these words often when writing.
Just wanted to put things into perspective. I rest my case and really have nothing more to add apart from maybe a .2 of tenths off my 400m time.
