|
|
Hi guys
I'm getting my EA camshaft reground and not sure whether I should get the associated vernier timing gear or not.
The cam is crowcams 222002, (i'm after better fuel economy and low end torque) and the timing gear is a crowcams CS6EA-V.
Do I need the new timing gear or can I get away with using the stock gear?
Has anyone had experience with vernier gears?
Cheers

The Crow Cams website mentions dialling in their cams to get the best performance & economy. To do this, you really nead a vernier gear.
If you've had the cylinder head shaved, you should also use one as cam timing will be out. I had 25 thou taken off an EF head and the cam timing was out 2 degrees. The vernier gear fixed this error.
If you want to do the cam installation properly, I suggest you get a vernier gear. |

I've had a little look around and have found a few different vernier cam gears.
crow cams supplies the one I listed above for $189.20 and rollmaster has one for $110. I think JMM also have one but I haven't found any prices yet.
has anyone used one of the above gears or any other adjustable cam gear? what did you think of it?
Cheers

I think the one that Crow Cams supply is actually a Rollermsater one...so you're better off getting the Rollermaster one straight out for $110 rather then having the middle man to charge you an extra $79.20.
Though someone please confirm my statement.

I have the Rollmaster one on my engine, and I am very happy with it. Easily adjusted, and it doesnt work loose like some of the jap 4cyl ones do. Get the Rollmaster one, p/n CS3250. |

cheers for the feedback mate, the part number you quoted is for the cam gear and chain set. for just the cam gear it's CS3255.
will the rollmaster cam gear work with the standard chain? and is it a good idea to get a new chain anyway, (keeping in mind this chain has probably never been changed)
cheers

chain should outlast the engine, keep in mind,
You'll need to almost remove the sump to change the chain. |

| hmm in that case i might just stick with getting the single rollmaster cam gear without getting a new chain ( as long as it's compatible). |
