its bulls*it i have blown 3 coils in 3 weeks the first time it just stoped in the middle of port rd had that fixed then it blew agen and i towed it home and fixed it myself found some water leaking on to it thought that was why it had blown but a week later and no water leaks its gone agen adleast it was still in the drive way no towing this time

i thought it could be dodgy earths i thave started taking them off and sanding the terminals i dont want to spend anouther $60 on it so it can leave me on the side of the road some were any ideas would be great

its a XH 97 5 speed factory LPG resent work has been central locking new stepper motor (LPG s**t) and new oxy sensor dont recon any of those would do it tho

cheers

it could be the tfi module on the dizzy on its way out?
i have heard the sometimes when the tfi is crook it can cause the coil to fail?
it might pay to get a new tfi module aswell..

sounds like you have a big issue there.. does your motor get hot/overheat? it seems that the coils with metal brackets break when the motor gets hot as the brackets expand and crack the plastic casing. try only putting 1 bolt in and make sure that lil resistor thing is plugged in

i believe there should also be a lil resistor or something that taps into the wires and earths onto one of the bolts

I had a similiar problem a while ago, the car just stopped on the highway, got towed home, fitted a new coil, it shat itself a week later. This time i replaced the coil and the TFI module, been going like a train ever since. The TFI can feed back into the coil and f**k it up. Replace the TFI with a new one, and all will be well.

The TFI module can't break the Coil. All the TFI module does is provide the (PIP) signal for the negative trigger pulse for the coil to fire. It's not as if it's go pump huge amps into it and fry it.

Heat stuffs coils and TFI modules. A faulty Hall effect pickup sensor underneath the chopper disk in the dizzy can cause the TFI module to fail also.

Just relocate the coil somewhere where you can access it easily and keep a spare in the glovebox or boot.

My coil would now take approx 2min to replace if it every fails again since I have relocated it.

Cheers..

Are you sure the coils are breaking? I bought 2 second hand coils for my EA a while ago then just went and bought a new coil thinking they were all broken, turns out it was only the high tension lead between the coil and the dizzy... something worth checking?
My EA was just randomly stoping then wouldnt go until I put the new coil in, which was probably bending the lead and re-conecting it for a while...

ummm it cost me nothing to relocate my coil, just used 1m of twin auto cable out of the shed, cut the plug off. Couple of red male and female crimps and Bob's your uncle. Atleast once you move it , you don't have to worry about it being bolted to the engine block (heat) or water dripping on it it from A stuffed heater hose etc...Or engine oil dripping on it from a oil leak from the inlet manifold/head etc...

Seriously I mean by the time you stuff around putting the car on ramps or axle stands to replace the coil in the factory position. Don't you think it's worth while spending another 30min tops to relocate the coil. To a position you can easily access it with the bonnet up on the side of the road.

Cheers....

Since your car is LPG, replace your leads, plugs and move the coil. I would say either one of your leads or plugs are shorting to earth and putting a large load on your coil output!!.

Pop the bonnet up at night and see if you can see any stray arcs.

took the coil back to sprint and they are going to send it off for testing, got some industrial earths to replace the origanal ones and orded some 9mm leads there only 80c more expencive then 8mm so my car will be on stands for a bit longer

shorting to earth actualy places less load on the coil.
high resistance is what puts more load on coils.

there is no difference in the conductor between 9mm and 8mm leads.
