HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...... Sorry about that....
Just couldn't help it...
Sorry to interrupt yet another great thread from the binary, hexidecimal, abacus mine dude. Maybe, just maybe, you could work something out for the paddles using some mock ups of alloy sheet or what-have-you rather than make an awesome looking carbon fibre thing that you haven't actually got mounted anywhere.
Just a thought.
As for your "being out of my league" comment... I wouldn't worry about it. I am out of mine constantly and it hasn't resulted in anything, or anyone, permanently dying as yet.
Rock on... Work out a cost for finished item and train a couple of dudes in each state to install!
I'll do you a primo looking s**t - will do free in exchange for 1.5% of profits.
So - when I'm wandering around the wreckers or the wrecks on auction sites looking for inspiration - Do I keep my eye out for one of these trannie boxes? I say yes. I also say I should get a highly paid job, cheers |

There were 3 units made that operated off the std BA wheel buttons, but thats as far as I went with it, because Im working other stuff.

OK, this is a bit cheeky of me but.....
If you're not producing or selling them - what are the chances you'd be willing to share the specs of what you did in a tech article?
How did you go about using the buttons? Did flicking the Shifter to the left do some sort of relay switching of the wheelbutton lines so that they could be used for changing gears instead of their normal functions?
I find this an intruiging solution and feel compelled to try to learn more!

Weekend Update
Steering Wheel Controls
Not much progress, a lot of learning taking place (i.e. how to use the existing wiring to the steering wheel).
But this'll keep y'all interested. |

But that's a bloody great spot for the buttons though! Expensive if you get it wrong....
So re: the lines, I have a clockspring at home that I could checkout for spare lines. With your setup, how many lines do you think you'd need? Can you use existing 12V or GND lines to get it down to 2? Can you mux the signal in any way - like the 'resistor' single pin system on the 4A SSS - to get it down to one?
I'd have to say that getting 4 lines through the clockspring would impossible unless you are missing buttons on the wheel, but I'm not closed to the idea that there may be 2 spare unused lines through it somewhere.

No, not going to release any info on it.
But quite shortly I will have something available that will stand alone control the auto, with two shift patterns programs, full manual control, paddle control, or pushbutton control (ie one button per gear) which can interface into standard wheel buttons, and is 100% configurable |

Clock spring is full. I'm making use of an existing circuit. Hopefully without losing functionality too. |

And fair enough too. Can't believe someone who is into modifying stuff himself couldn't believe it when you started modifying stuff!
Molesting implies doing something deviant, dirty and wrong. I would suggest ripping into a original Ford bit to make it better is completely a saintly activity that deserves credit for the balls shown.
(Actually, no need to show your balls... Cheers anyway)...
And here's me still procrastinating about putting the digital climate control into my 95 Futurlane for fear of never getting a working cooling system.
Go destroy some more Ford stuff that is lacking 1001110000 dude. |

/me puts camera away.
I did the climate control conversion in my EL. Do it, right royal PITA but oh so worthwhile in the end. |

Okay. I am an idiot.
I admit it.
I don't care.
Being an idiot has some advantages.
Like this one.
Ever thought of putting two clocksprings on the same steering column spline? The clockspring I just pulled off in order to change an indicator light has all the connections coming off the outer perimeter. Obviously this would not get in the way of another clockspring underneath. It should be easy enough to get the wires through the first clock and into the second (from the steering wheel...)
What do I know.
I am an idiot. |

| And that way you can not only keep all your original functions of the steering wheel, but add a few more. I always wish I had put the accelerator on the steering wheel, and now with a variable voltage controller linked to a stepper motor or something, you could. |

Oh --- Last (annoying, I know - sorry...) post...
I have a perfect solution for you.
The BENCH SEAT model EL's have a COLUMN SHIFT. All you need to do is change the linkages to the gearbox under the floorpan to link up with your electric shifter.
You could get rid of some of the carbon fibre and replace it with real steel!
Okay, nighty nighty.... See you all once I've skinned some more knuckles, but hopefully not burnt myself too badly. |
