hi guys,

my factory CD stacker is not working. the radio works fine. i push the CD button and it does like a search, then reverts back to radio(may be because no CD in unit). i push the CD load button, it lights up and beeps, then doesn't do anything to accept a CD. Radio just stays on.

this has happened before, when a disc got stuck. a mate of mine fixed it, but not sure what he did.

has anyone got any ideas. is this a common problem. i would prefer to get it fxed to keep standard.

fors have quoted $350 for replacement

cheers

It wont allow me to load a CD. It wont grab it to load into stacker.

i would prefer standard as i want to keep the car original. but i have thought about aftermarket though.

if its cheap enough to fix then ill fix it.

apparently its a common problem, and something to do with the load mechanism jamming.

My stacker decided to die not too long ago. I bought an Alpine replacement 6 stack MP3 player that works with the factory HU. Its the best thing since sliced bread man. I think it was $350 also?

thanks guys for the replies.

so what everyone is saying is that if i get aftermarket, i lose the s/wheel control feature.

there's two company's that recondition the units - ALS and electronic repairs. they charge $336 and $329 respectively. link below

has anyone got some good aftermarket 2 DIN setups for around the $350 mark to replce std unit.

no dude

most aftermarket units have a remote that can be put into the steering wheel controls and most will be single DIN then u get the ford pocket for under it

and for those prices look on ebay for a 2nd hand unit or wreckers thats way more $$ to spend just to keep it factory looking

yeh, point taken, but that's for a reconditioned unit with the upgraded internals, and 12m warranty. Apparenty these head units went thru a few upgrades until 2002 when the BA model came out. These company's refit your old design for the better designed mechanism. also, buying SH may be buying into the same problem 6 months down the track.

i am leaning towards the factory recon unit, just for ease, and retaining the factory look.
