| I'm sure this has been covered a zillion times, but I can't find a sticky, and the search is just being useless. Anyone know of a doco or thread or anything with details on this? |

Great write up troyman.
I had to do this recently, and as an alternative, i welded mine. Only because i didn't think of bolting it. |

The factory clutch cable bezel cracks around where its welded to the firewall. Eventially your cable will break through the firewall and you'll have no clutch.
Its a pretty simple fix, and worthwhile doing before it breals if you can.

It's good fun ay, you're better off re-enforcing it before you need to fork out more money for other things that can go wrong.
btw I swear my cable used to never touch the extractors? |

Mine's a good 5 cm or so away from my extractors, you sure its running the same route as it was before?
Might be able to get a photo of where mine runs if I can find the camera. |

oh mate that would be tits if you could.
Coast mechanics can suck my d**k as far as I'm concerned, you try to tell them something and they treat you like you have no idea.
I've told mechanics many times what is wrong and they dismiss it straight away, the fact is i don't have the time or patience to do a lot of the engine work on my car, so i will keep getting f**k around. |

thats why i made the doco.
mine had also cracked and had been welded before i got the car.
but it then cracked again right next to where it was welded (due to a s**t clutch cable)and got that bad the pipe had been pulled right through the firewall and cracked the pedal box..doh.
so this plate will never crack and has a large surface area to prevent any more cracking..
especially if you have a hd clutch...
now if you havnt re-enforced the pedal box that might be something to also look at...
and my clutch cable sits about 10cm away from the extractors. but i guess it might depend on the brand of the extractors |

nah you see mine has an aftermarket plate fitted.
What has happened is they've installed the clutch cable not giving a f**k and it's not sitting where it should be, i can pull the cable out from under the block and it will sit out for about 5 pumps of the clutch then it's straight back under the block.
I've heard there are brackets the clutch is meant to lock into?
There needs to be more T5 owners on the coast. |

| Theres saddles for the clutch cable, by memory, one is behind the block, another right infront of the clutch fork. Mine was rubbing down on the engine mount, but a bit of plastic tube kept it from rubbing away. |
