|

I'm thinking of buying a 2006 FORD FAIRMONT BF Ghia with a v8, my question is what are the engines like ? it has the 6 speed box and has done around 64,000 k's, the paint is a little rough for a 3 year old car(but then again it is black.) I like Fairmonts and just want to know how much power the engine has and if the car is worth around ?26000?
I'm coming out of a ef fairmont v8!
If anyone has some info on possible reasons I wouldn't buy this model, let me know?
Thanks guy's |

I'd say $26,000 is a pretty good price for a BF with a 6spd ZF box.
You'll love the torque of the 3-valve compared to you EF 5.0.
They are not a bad engine but you'll find once you've done all the usual bolt ons etc that you come to abit of a brick wall unless you decide to go forced induction.
But overall i think you'll love it. The ZF box will make it quite a quick car IMO.

Thanks for your Reply Jeff !
Torque is what I want as the old Fairmont has none !
I'm going to go test drive it Saturday................
i won't be spending money on mods as am stretching the budget as it is now(as we do !)
6 speed box is a plus. I'm only worried about the k's as I will put it over 100,000 in no time as I do alot of driving.
Thanks mate |

3V's are great but....ask the guy if you can take the spark plugs out before you buy it. They have been known to snap off in the head.
Don't let that put you off because just a reflash, exhaust and cold air will get you similar power to a GT but with all the torque the GT hasn't got! |

as pete said there was an issue with plugs snapping off in the head, or pulling the threads out with them. ford released a service bulliten for all ford dealers/workshops instructing to get the car hot before removing plugs. have done many myself and not had a problem. 3v's are very nice to drive and the 6 spd is a dream box. i think u would be happy if u bought it.

| They are a very nice car and with a few light mods as stated above (tune, c.i.a & exhaust) you would see 220-230rwkw and hose of XR's and GT at the lights. |

| As above, this engine responds well to simple tune, exhaust & CAI mods. IIRC it has VCT but the DOHC Boss doesn't? That would help explain the torque. |

Unreal !
I just logged on this morning to see these comments.
Makes me feel better as I signed the contract to buy over the weekend !
Glad to hear I can make more power easy when I need it(won't for a while as it feels like a rocket ship compared to my old ef 5.0 !)
Thanks heaps for the replies.............I'll post a photo of it and consult the forum for ideas when I need to upgrade the kw !
Go the fords............. |

thats seems a bit backwards to me, as the head will be at full expansion, and so will the plugs making for tighter clearences. I cant see how making the engine hot before removal is going to do anything other than make them harder to remove.
cold heads and cold plugs mean the metals are in a retracted and relaxed state widening tolerances and making removal easier. in theory. |

Actually the clearances are not tighter when hot. The spark plug hole actually increases in diameter when hot. |

Thanks for the heads up on the plugs, I'll keep an eye on it when I get it serviced.
Should I get it serviced at fords?
I have taken my old one too them and they were not much help !
Cheers |

I'll post pic's for sure, will only be stock but will look good.......................
I'm starting to get that feeling that I don't want to let the old EF Fairmont go.
I'm sure that won't last long when I get in the BF for sure............. |
