Looking good mick, good to see the telstar go to a good home.

I had a tear in my eye when she left icon_lol.gif had it for a few years.

Have you taken it for a drive again? is she still slipping?

I did take it for another good run around the industrial estate and Macquarie Hills after I gave it a wash, and still no sign of slipping icon_confused.gif I'm gunna do the little bit of rust in the rear tailgate on the weekend and give the whole car a good once over, but other than that I think she's ready for the inspection. I'll let ya know how it goes. icon_biggrin.gif

Progress! icon_smile.gif Rust in the tailgate now fixed, repainted the Telstar TX5 badge on the tailgate chrome again, removed the bloody pinstriping (I hate pinstriping) gave the paint a polish (came up a treat), detailed the interior (bloody smokers icon_razz.gif . Did you spill a can of coke all over the dash ben? icon_lol.gif) Tomorrow I will be trying the factory mags from the Lane, to see if they fit, If not I will be looking for a cheap set of Post AU factory mags to tart it up a bit.
Anyone know of mechanics in the Newcastle area that do the blue slips?

well you have a nice start.
i see ray and donna have been giving you some heads up.
when lowering these things.. dont go stupid with them as they lose there drivablity. i reckonmend pedders lows with a set of shocks to suit them.. brings the car down nicely with out being too bloody low.

i have suspension issues with mine as its too low.. custom ktm sprongs 3 or 3.5' drop all round (looks cool but its silly low)

as for rims... you have to get the offest right otherwise your up s**t creek.
ba rims fit no probs.. pre ba is pushing it.. with rim and tyre hanging out of the gaurd.
anything that 17x8 or 18x8 you will need about a +35 offset i think it is.

performance.. the n/a is good but no where as good as the turbo. the n/a the most you can really do is the exhaust extractors pod some hard pipping and abit of timing advance and it should be about as quick as a stock turbo tx5.

jump on tx5club.co.nr and have a search around.
see some nice examples of what can be done to them.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement matey! At this stage there won't be a great deal done to the TX other than getting it ready for rego and then a few mods here and there to tidy it up for the missus. It will be her daily driver, i.e. mums taxi, work car etc. She works at a shopping centre so it is very likely that it will cop the odd car park ding here and there, which is why I s**t myself everytime she drives the Lane to work icon_sad.gif
Thanks for the advice on the wheels. I did try to fit the NC factory mags on the weekend and it turned it into a wide load look icon_razz.gif I'll have to keep my eye out for a cheap set of factory BA mags for it. Probably wouldn't go any bigger than 16's atm. Anybody looking to offload a set give me a holler!
I will get onto the TX5 site tonight and check it out. I did go googling for a tx5 site a while back and didn't come up with anything too exciting.

Cheers,
Mick

theres a bloke on there at the moment by the name of "madman" he's selling a set of ba xr6 rims with no tyres for $400 i think.

not the best pic but heres a pic of my little beast... this is how low it sits.. with a set of 16' bbs rims. s**t pic of it (phone pic).. looks crap but its alot better in person
and the bunning garden edge front lip (i reckonmend it)

also notice next to it. there is a 626 wagon with the falcon rims on it. i think there 17x8 with a 30-40 offset and sits perfectly in the gaurds..

Well, The Telstar's ready for the big test. Booked in for a Blue Slip on Wednesday at TRG Automotive, Cardiff. If any of you newie boys know of any other mechanics in Cardiff area that do Bluey's let me know.
The reason I ask is I just called into a local dismantler to pick up a set of new headlights for the TX5 and asked if TRG were hard on Bluey Slips and the f**k just laughed and said "good luck mate". Now how you suppose to take that icon_evil.gif He did say that they use to be good mates, but he left it at that so it might just be bad blood icon_confused.gif
Will find out next week. Wish me luck.

Cheers Benny,
Nearly there mate, haven't touched the old girl for a couple of weeks (the telstar hasn't been gettin any attention either icon_lol.gif ). There's a drain on the battery I need to sort out today, because every week I go out and try to start it the battery is flat. I know you said it was a new battery, so there must be a current drain on the battery somewhere. I'll figure it out.
Stay tuned Wednesday arvo, i'll either be very p****d off or very happy.

Well! I'm a little happy, but a little peeved at the same time. Happy because the Telstar didn't fail, and a little peeved because it didn't exactly pass either, OH! and the friggin blues lost "FU..........BUM"
He was happy with the car except for one little thing that I have to repair and then he will pass it no worries. A bit of rust in the drivers side front pillar. icon_sad.gif He did have a point, that the front pillar is a load bearing point, so I will clean it up this weekend and then the lane will be getting some TLC icon_biggrin.gif
Didn't turn out to be very much at all once I hit it with the "grinder"

Yeah! Piece of Piss to fix icon_lol.gif The photo's are after I had hit it with the angle grinder and then treated with rust kill. I'll do a bit of patching on the weekend and give it a lick of paint and then I just have to take it back Monday morning to show it has been repaired and I'll have myself a blue slip icon_biggrin.gif The old Telstar will be back terrorising the streets of Cardiff by next week icon_razz.gif I can now start doing some of the more serious mods to the Lane icon_biggrin.gif

Yippee! I have the Blue slip in my hand. Now to sort out the hassles I'm having getting a green slip. Problem I am having is that if the car's not comprehensively insured, they want to charge me double (around $550), problem is I can't insure an unregistered vehicle and I can't register the car without a green slip icon_twisted.gif What a pain in the a**. I am about to ring NRMA and have a chat. Hope I get lucky and get someone who can speak english and have half a brain icon_rolleyes.gif
Oh, I also got me a pink slip for the Lane whilst I was at it. Passed no prob's. (even with the blue LED parkers in) He did give me a bit of s**t about them, but pointed out that if he had me change them, I would only put them back in once I drove away icon_lol.gif I had my a** covered though, had clear ones sitting in the glove box icon_wink.gif

It's looking good man.

My g/f picked up a Tx5 turbo with a couple of mods a couple mths back, they really do go well & are not bad on fuel either. It's got a larger fmic, a boost controller & a 3" from the cat back, with only a sports muffler. Running 10psi boost atm, but was running 13 when bought. We turned it down for the winter. icon_wink.gif Also has a set of 17x7 rims with 215/45/17's on them, and lowered a fair bit. Handles well for a FWD turbo car, i'd probably buy one if i had to replace my EB as my daily driver.

If you want Tx5 performance you can't pass the turbo setup.

Cheers

Thanks mate, but the old Telstar won't be getting any "special" treatment any time soon, not by me anyway. Despite all of my words of encouragement, the missus friggins hates it. Doesn't like the ole front wheel drive! I think the biggest problem with this model is that because it has a bit of go, it just can't help but break traction everytime you take off, and I haven't even driven it in the rain yet icon_eek.gif
Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great little runabout, but the missus has the same love of the ole V8 that I have probably instilled in her, so I have to think if I would be happy driving around in a 4 pot when there is a V8 in the driveway icon_confused.gif
Oh well, the hunt is now on for a decent ED mont ghia or XR for the missus, no way is the lane going back to a daily icon_mad.gif
