ok guys,

hopefully some of you can help me out..

i've fitted a pair of ultra's in the rear, and im now attempting to do the front struts..
both have been pulled out, old springs are out...

now i went to put the superlow's on and the end positions of the coil dont match up, so 1 of the 3 bolts which is supposed to be pointing out towards the fender, is just not co=operating..

i've tried to move the rubber inside the top bit, but there are 3 indentations in the rubber which i assume are to line it up...

hopefully that all made sence...

need help asap....

Yeah mate has happened to me a few times its a pain in the a***. Not sure if you are supposed to do this but all i did was line the 2 up in the holes then grab the spring and twist it till it lines up, it takes a bit of swearing but it lines up. Hope this makes sense and is what you are talking about. icon_biggrin.gif

yeh this is the easiest way to do it. like deller said line to bolts up and twist the strut until they all line up.

here's a pic looking from the front...

i put bottom in vice and tightened it all up, and then tried to twist it, first by hand, and then with a crow bar, will still only twist an 1 inch, no where near enough...

A little trick when replacing the front springs is to mark the very outer of the top spring shell as you will have to remove the rubber insert to lign up with the end of the spring. As you have not done this you will have to align it by eye with the lower mounts of the shock, sit the rubber insert on top of the spring then sit the top spring shell on as close as possible as it would fit in the car. If it was marke before it was removed all you had to do was line the mark up with the lower of the shock.

not to sure what you have done there just make sure everything is located properly and check with your old springs make sure both of the ends of the springs finish in the same spots.

all done guys, i just took it for a spin then through some small residential roads, to wear it in icon_biggrin.gif handles alot better, not like driving a boat..

in the end i just did what joolz said, lucky i have good eyes..
now just need a caster/camber kit and a wheel alignment icon_biggrin.gif

theres abit of a squeak coming from the rear going over bumps, but im hoping it will settle in...

cheers for the reply guys, much appreciated!

the other option you could have tried was put the top in first and then twist the bottom around.

With the squeak from the rear this may help. Back the car up onto some ramps and loosen all the control arm bushes, let the bushes twist into their relaxed position and then re-tighten. This goes for the front lower control arm bushes too.

I recently tried the method of putting the three top bolts in then trying to twist the shock body, but it didn't really want to work. It would be easier however if the coils were only just tight, like a super or ultralow type, compared to my std ones. But even if it does work it still means the top ends of the springs no longer mate up with the appropriate section of the top rubber. So overall i don't recommend it at all.

Joolz is right about marking the top hat relative to the shock body. If you mark the hat relative to the spring end, you will have a problem if the new springs have a different number of turns.
