my 02 explorer is stuck in 4wd and making a whining noise .auto elect checked it out said no problem on the electrical side now thinks it might be transfer case or transmission.anyone that can help shed some light on this problem would be welcomed thanks howard

Sounds like the transfer case. They are a common problem with Explorers. They cost around the $950 mark secondhand. You have to make sure you get the right one as there are two different types. One with a speed sensor and one without.
