Gday All.
Any one using a turbo 4.0L in a car used for circuit sprint, club days, hill climbs, tarmac rallys? I realise there are a few guys doing it in BA's & later but what about modded older e & a series cars?
I am interested to know how the set ups handle constant on & off, part & full throttle work rather than just 13 seconds of flat out drag stuff?
Maybe N/A will work better for circuits?
Any opinions?
Thanks |

Heat will be you're biggest problem.
XR6T's and F6's had extensive testing done by Ford so that they can cope with whatever someone throws at them. Once modded anything is possible.
Same with an older model with turbo conversion. |

| I would deffinatly recomend getting an engine oil cooler, flat out driving tends to heat up the oil pretty quickly, especially with a turbo.. |

You would run much lower boost than you would with 1/4 mile .. In most cases rpm is lower than n/a engine..
Yes an oil cooler. Alot depends how you drive? Just like n/a ... Make sure you have plenty of cool down time..
My son's Fairmont has done a day at Oran Park 7 / 8 hard laps at time with no issues.. The street tyres and almost std brakes the limiting factors...
Having a little more oil in sump helps against oil surge etc... Naturally if the turbo conversion has some issues ? It will show... AU with there alloy sump etc cools quite well...
Its the heat from turbo and dump pipe itself that may require some shielding from heat sensitive parts... |

if the tune is right u will have no problem.
imo less boost more advance its a good idea, keep the heat down. the tuner should know what is ideal for a circut car. |

Thanks for that info. Torque out of corners will be the key. I am thinking an e series ex saloon race car will make a serious track car with a snail on the side. Be nice to see a taxi giving the jap turbo terriers a bit of hurry up.
Car weight will be the killer on brakes and tyres. |

Aren't the saloon cars still running EBs ??? They're pretty light to begin with, then they're stripped out and caged for the track. Probably a good start.
I don't know however how suitable the motor will be for a turbo. They're allowed certain mods, e.g. cams etc. |
