Yep, the EA diff was the same as an XF one, and I have put latewr gears ( 3.27 ) into an XD diff housing.
I currently have an EBII housing in my EA, with the EA centre ( LSD), EA axles & brakes, with the EBII 3.27 gears. |

There are 2 types of BW live axle diferentials in x series and continues into the e series right thru to AU as well and here they go.
BW 0575 - 25 spline centre available in both LSD and conventional
Ratios - 2.75, 2.77, 3.08, 3.23.
BW 0578 - 28 spline Centre available in LSD and Conventional
Ratios - 2.77, 2.92, 3.08, 3.23, 3.45 ,3.55, 3.70, 3.90, 4.11 and a few more less common ones i think too.
Later versions of the BW 0578 have been labeled as "BTR" (0578)but are essentially the same just different widths (Rim to Rim) hence the shorter wheel base meaning shorter axle length as well.
Housings are different in that the 0578 pinion gear is recessed (a guess here, cant remember the magic number) bout 2.0 mm forwards into the housing as the 28 spline cogs are larger in depth to both crown and pinion and hence stronger.
U can fitt 25 spline gears into a 28 spline housing and vica/versa by either machining out this difference or inserting a shim between the pinion gear and the cone bearing, however, the hemisphere must stay with the gear set as the hemisphere is offset by about 8mm to accomodate for the thicker crownwheel of the 0578 gear sets.
This is research i have come across i my travels a few years ago when i was told that all BW diffs are the same and are internally interchangable with any BW rear from commodore/ford/skyline/valiant/others. This was not true and after buying many different combinations i had finally got a 28 spline set of 3.45 (commodore) LSD rear into my 86 LTD (same as XF Disc LSD. BW 0575)
As cjh above suggests all his combinations fell into the 0578 family and fitted with no trouble at all which is easy with later housings, not tru with earlier housings found from XF backwards.
Anyone else who knows more feel free to edit/ add to this as i feel a little rusty still on this

I would expect u could fitt this combination together as BWs fitted with 3.23 ratio cogs would be a 0578 gear set. Check the housing for ID but i am pretty sure it will be 0578.
Which breed of XF do u own? , the 2.92 were fitted into utes mostly some with LSD (longreaches) and will be a 0578 rear. |

Also, the 6cyl Skylines, the box ones from 85/86 to 88 ( RWD ), had BW diffs, with some good ratios, like 3.45, 3.72, 3.89.
The centres from the VL Commo diffs fit too ( BW diffs ) 3.45 ( 6cyl) and 3.08 ( V8 ).
The XW utes had an optional ratio of 4.00, a BW diff.
Also the centres from an old Leyland P76 had 3.90 in the 6cyl ones ( a BW diff ). |
