So decided against using Plastic and Vinyl paint? You don't need to primer with that stuff. But then again, yours might stay looking good for longer!

nah we used vinyl dye spray for the vinyls.
for the plastic we used an acrilic satin black with thinner.

it turned out nice, just forgot to spray the primer.

mate...that is a ridiculous amount of plastic bags...where the hell did you get them from? hahahaha

Good to see it's going smoothly icon_biggrin.gif. BTW, by front pillars you mean the A pillars?

They do come off, you just have to be careful not to snap the plastic clips...I've snapped 2.

phong =P~

haha yeah!
the pillars that run along the front window.

i was game enough to take them out.
but i might have to cos they need to be sanded and done again.

as for the bags, just ripped garbage bags in half and covered everything.

Since I have the whole bloody dash out of the Fairmont EF Wagon sitting in the garage roof space I think I will spray it with vinyl paint whilst it's out the car! I also have pulled off the A pillar trim and tried to find a "suede" effect paint in black - but they only make gawd awfull purples and crap like that.

Rank.

fiend depending on how much you want to spray.
we sprayed the whole vinyl dash with one can of Vinyl Dye Spray for repco, $14.99 a can.

the rest we did with a air compressor and air gun. but they're expensive to hire, so you might as well get a few cans and go for gold!

if you're doing plastic, DONT FORGET THE PRIMER!
it's made my life hell forgetting to do it.

No worries man... Been mucking about with colour changes in the interior for a while now. Been through bloody heaps of different products and have finally settled on the way forward. I am a bit put off by the glossy finish that the vinyl paints leave behind on the dash - sun reflections... But hey, New Zealand ain't that damn sunny, so what the hell...

haha!
the vinyl paint i used was satin.
so there's no gloss at all to it really. just the factory shine.

They do make Satin Black vinyl paint... You don't have to buy gloss black. I used satin black... No gloss so factory look!

I have found two product called VINYL RESTORER that do not have a SATIN or MATT option. And they are the best at covering vinyl. Also --- Believe it or not - they cover valure and leave it feeling close to original... Where as the MATT products (more of a plastic paint) leave the valure surfaces feeling like spray painted carpet.

I have now decided to combine the two products which requires completely stripping the door trims... I remove the very top section from the door section, the upholstery padding, the armrest. The armrest and top bit gets SEPTONE PLASTIC PRIMER and SEPTONE SATIN BLACK PLASTIC / VINYL PAINT (about $15 each from Supercheap...) The valure door bits get PLASTICOAT VINYL COVER ($15 from Bunnings). The padded insert bits were recovered in black vinyl from the original valure.

All good... Am busy doing other car stuff now, but will be back onto the interior and finally putting that damn climate control and dash in...!
