Serious question, who cares what the top speed is, isn't it much more interesting to get it to accelerate quicker and then test that on the 1/4 mile or on a race track, where you get a time slip as well as no worries about getting a speeding ticket or perhaps even losing your license or car or even worse?
Who cares if a car can do, say, 230km/h if you can't get up to that without using a private runway or something like that? I'd rather have a car that tops out at say 170km/h but can get close to that speed in a 1/4 mile, and would rather have the time slip to prove it.
Feel free to disagree with me, flame me, whatever, my 10c worth. |

yes BUT your 1/4 mile time slip also shows the SPEED alongside the time of your run across the finish line. So if your main aim is to impress people with that piece of paper........you won't. Because they'll see you've just got gear ratio changes....and not real power.......due to the fact u will have a low time......but also a LOW SPEED.
The upside of this is, indeed, you will have a fast accelerating car......and that feels good..........if your not planning to do much (if any) highway driving. |

wtf?
To be successful on the drag strip you must have power, and you must have the car gearing setup correctly.
So i guess a dyno queen is what makes a quick car? |

LOL .....
you say a quick time on the track isnt respectable if theyve got short diff gearing
Was pointing out how stupid your comment was |

theres more parts to a car than just an engine.
But anyway, back to giving the thread starter a lecture about speed limiters.....if he's still here? |

Im looking at removing my limiter, well even just bumping it up 10-20k's
My EF has 3.9's in the diff, and it is a big piss off when im bouncing speed limiter at 140 for the last part of the track. |

| try getting your speedo re-calibrated then as the SPEED limiter goes by SPEED, so it shouldnt cut out at 140 unless you didnt get the speedo calibrated to suit the new diff gears |

Man what speed do u think most cars crack a low 10sec pass at the track??
Approx 125- 128mp/r =204km/phr using diff gears and tyre sizing and gear changes to get an extra 10tenth of a second.
So u would rather a car with 500 horsepower and say 2.75 gears (stock) and u reckon people will say " thats fast " or "nugget" cause u cant get to the finnish line under high 13's
If u have 600 horspower and stock gears how fast down the 1/4 would u go. Do u even know what torque means? Power dont mean s**t without torque and stock gear ratios will only get u to Border faster cause thats the only road u can "see how fast ur goin"
It costs lots of money to go 1 sec faster, so if ur in the high 13's how FAST do u think ur going?? And whats the first thing u will change- Diff Gears.

Honestly, all the haters here bashing the guy = not good. He'll just think you're all d**k and try it anyway. How about providing the truth.
1. E series falcons were never made to go that fast (EL GT excluded).
2. I had an EL with a lot of work done (over 150RWKW), I was running out of revs. I started playing with the ECU, I upped the rev limiter and removed the speed limiter, as the 180 limit came in before the end of 3rd on a dyno = hard to tune.
3. On a dyno (don't do that kinda s**t on the roads), the gearbox/tailshaft/airbags/exhaust all failed at ONLY 192KM/H - proof it wasn't made for high speeds.
4. Cost over $1500 to fix it back up, and that was with me/friends doing the labour. The engine then died only two weeks after getting it back on the road (related or not I don't know) another $1500.
5. Bought myself a GT-P, it's made to go fast, and I have my fun on drag strips and race circuits.
6. Learn from my failure. I'm lucky I wasn't stupid and tried beating 180 on the road, I'd probably be dead.
Close thread move on. |

You think that mechanical failure was smooth/quiet?
The impact would have ruptured the sensor on the firewall among other things, static, shock. |

I can help you remove the speed limiter if need be. PM me for info.
Most people argue about the need to exceed 180km/h. That is part of the argument anyway. The real argument relates to tailshaft RPM, and diff gears.
Not the actual speed as such.
In regards to / driveline failures, its all to do with the driveline setup. If you need to go over "180km/h" then install a thicker wall tailshaft. That is the weak link of the e-series, to do with the tailshaft length, thickness, and the MAXIMUM SAFE RPM of the tailshaft. it really is only a ratio to the "km/h"
A lot of cars with the same length tailshafts as E-series can spin over 7000rpm without tailshaft failure, but that is with a 3 or 3.5" dia, thick wall tailshaft, made to withstand that amount of RPM.
Its got nothing to do with max speed.
Also its advisable to install tailshaft loops. |
