today i cruised down to the wreckers to retreive the most dredded part of my eb to el engine and interior conversion... the wiring loom...

3 hours later i got busted up hands and the loom... woop woop!!

but now my question is out to those who may have previously done this conversion this way,

-how much will actually click together?
-how much will i have to cut n shut?
-are the wire color codes the same??
-will i prefer to eat a pine cone than to do this mod??

LOL, cracked me up...

Anyway, are you just converting the required engine swap wiring?
Or are you doing dash/cluster aswell?

In my opinion the easiest way is to swap everything from a late model donor.
I went with the option of getting it working with the EB harness simply because I bought it as an unfinished project with the engine already in the car but without it running, simply swap over the ISC and TPS connectors (lengthen the TPS wire) and it should be good to thread through.

I think there was another connector you have to lengthen the wiring for too, I'll have to check my old thread. But anyway, I made up a seperate harness for the BBM and knock sensor and threaded that through to the cabin with the heater vacuum hoses.

EDIT: I think it was the air intake temp sensor connector

That what i did, entire ef loom, and it made it real easy. However, i wanted all the Fairmont fruit aswell. If you only wanted the engine swap, it'd be heaps quicker to do it your way. BENJ also did it the way of making his loom work with the new engine, and added BBM switching/wiring etc.

Yep complete harness (as in the whole thing) would be your best bet icon_smile.gif
Then all you'd have to do is wire up the headlights/taillights. Should probably read PIMP_LTD's build thread for particulars like the EF/EB hybrid combination switch

yeah read into that my biggest problem atm is the heater/ ac unit none of the wires add up may have to change... other problem is i think the dash i have is ef concorde so some of the plugs arent 100% the same may have to study this s**t

Yeah i'd go a complete loom then, as knowsfords said, thats what i did, and it was easy. It just takes a little more time.

Headlights and front indicators are same wiring, all plugs in. It just fits a little tight around the front. But it still fits. Taillights i made a convertor loom.

If the wiring on the heater box is different, just get the parts of an ef one, or get a whole ef one and fit it. icon_smile.gif

This isn't as easy as plug n play. You at least have it easy as yours is a 6cyl. Mine was a bit harder being a V8. Some of the wires may be the same but you seriously wouldn't do this mod without a wiring diagram and multimeter. Perhaps, you should go and eat that pine cone. Otherwise, here are some photos to either scare you or get you going again.

EF 6cyl dash loom and engine bay loom laid on floor and every wire identified so that it can be grafted onto a EF V8 engine harness and EL V8 ECU:



Dash, console, EF cruise module, steering wheel and half the column etc in a box. All up $80.



Re-arranged engine bay loom with EF fusible link box and other relays etc:



Bye bye ED Fairmont dash. Have a look under the drivers side near the pedal box. EF loom routed through the firewall and the dash loom laying over the tranny hump ready to be wired up the the EL V8 ECU.



You would think that I'm nearly there. Far from it!

Yours was a little more comprehensive though, as you matched a few looms together didn't you?

Its piss easy with a donor car, or atleast pull all the gear outta one or same car. Mine pretty much was plug and play, Except for the taillights.

so far i dont think im gonna eat that pine cone im finding it quite easy considering...

the difference is i have a wagon so had to buy my interior out of a wagon but wanted better seats so i paid $850 to ftg auto salvage who gave me a concorde interior with a f**k dash never been screwed over by any1 so bad before...

while im at it how hard to add climate control to a car that never had it in the first place?

i have high series bem

Not hard to fit Climate, i did this with the rest of the conv. Was easy.

All you need to do is fit the CC heater/ac unit in place of the non CC one. As long as you have high bem, all the needed loom, and some initiative, its piss easy.

What model did you get your loom out of, and exactly how much of the loom did you get?

Oh cool. So all you need is a climate control heater/ac unit out of fairlane/fairmont. All the heater/ac lines in the engine bay connect as normal.

in tech docs says i dont need the heater ac unit just need to add door blend motor ect

What is the difference here? Is it where the vacuum controller is mounted differently or where the hoses go on the heater/AC unit? I'm asking because I used my original box with the EF vacuum controller but the climate control doesn't do what it should do ie, face on CC screen but it blows out the demister....

I've done a CC diagnostic check and everything comes up good so it has me beat.

I noticed in the gli one, it had less vac hoses, and they ran different ways. The fairmont was quite different. I'm not sure what the differences actually mean, as i just used all the EF's gear. Mayeb you just have a couple of hoses the wrong way? I did that the first time i ran it. Now sorted though.

id say vac hoses wrong way also but ive also heared that ef and el are different and u cant mix
