Ford airbag systems are non servicable and don't require any testing or maintenance throughout their life.
Beemers and Mercs are about the only servicable ones out there, and require regular tests and checks.
Besides, there would be no testing on earth that could ensure this kind of deployment doesn't happen. |

Doubt it, pretty well known fact reliable airbag life is about 10 years
Or IS it? Does the ford user manual book say anything about getting it checked? If not then you may be on to something! |
ive spent a fair bit of time browsing through the manual and havnt come across anything like that but now you mention it i will have a look tomorow for something about it. or there should be something in the service things at the back. |

yeh thats right. it says in the book that the light will turn on when you start the car while the system checks all is well then it will turn off but if it stays on then there is a problem and you need to take it to ford and get them to have a squiz at it. |

| i put a leather steering wheel on about 2-3 years ago.. but no nothing recently been done to it or the electrics of the car before it went off.. and nope there was never anything amiss with the airbag light before it happened.. i was out on the highway sitting on about 100kays nothing hit the car and there wasnt even a pothole in the road. Its been into the local ford dealer and they told me nothing and charged me 60 bucks for there trouble.. not sure what to do now, apparently to pass rego the light has to come on for a certain amount of time. |

The car determined, that the airbags either wouldn't have helped or would've made things worse. (or of course it was faulty)
They'll only go off if the car thinks they'll help. |

Should have had your power nap mate, they save lives and also car crashes. In reality, the amount of kilometers will not justify if something should or shouldn't work. s**t happens, but sleep deprivation can be cured.
I just hope the airbag on the other car went off to save their lives. Hate to say it but not all things work...I am sure my car has a lot of s**t wrong with it that I just don't know...could drive good one day and blow up in my face the next.

yeah ok i should have stopped but we all make silly mistakes i thought i could get home i only lived 15mins from work so if the car decides why is there such a fuss they should tell you that about the air bags so you dnt fully trust them i nevr will again |

From memory there is 3 bolts. 2 on top and towards the back of the unit. You've obviously only seen the lowest/front/middle onee.
Much easier to get at with the dash out, or at least tilted forward. |
