ROFL, nah i was just saying that with the luck i have (not just with cars) i will get the s**t shagged out gearbox around haha. Lol @ Hitch Hikers!
As far as i knew 'Black Oak' was the nickname of the new (BA-FG) Ford ECU's which are produced by 'Visteon'.
Again, as far as i know the ABS is working, but there are heaps of questions i didn't ask because of all the excitement of getting my car back lol. I will have to find out, there's no ABS warning light showing, so i'm assuming everything is okay |
Your not the only one with not much luck dude, i work way too hard on my car's, and there's always something that needs to be done! You will get there tho!
If there's no ABS warning light, that's not a bad starting point to it working.
Cheers

Well, i've given the wreckers $100 to hold the gearbox for me, so i have $900 to go. Guess i'll have to have a few quiet weekends 'till i can get the cash together. There's still a few bits and pieces that need to be sorted as well, i have to get the sequential shifter mounted up and wired plus a small handfull of other niggly things. So...i don't know when its going to be ready.
Sorry to drag this out so long |

Bit of an update:
Here's some pictures of a few things BPT had done...
ECU wiring in engine bay.
More ECU wiring going into cabin.
Electronic pedal bracket.
Pedal is a bit off centre, but there isn't much room underneath the dash.
The black plug is the new diagnostic port for the BA ECU.
Here's a couple of pictures of my new HID lamps, i only installed one side for now, i couldn't be bothered taking out the battery to get to the other lamp haha!
6,000k HID, brightest legal lamps allowable....AFAIK.
Ballast tucked away, hole cut into lamp cap for wiring to pass through.
Side on shot, blinding haha.
Here's the mods to the airbox that i couldn't show you while the car was in perth.
Hacked out the bellmouth for a bit more flow, it's not pretty and has been squashed out of shape by the BA pipe being clamped onto it, it will do untill i get a full BA box.
The side of the box, it made a slight difference to throttle response and made the induction noise something to love, but other than that, didn't do much.

Yeah, wouldn't mind just hopping in, turning the key and driving somewhere. One day, slowly getting there. Paid off another hundred for the cogbox the other day, so that's $800 to go haha. I'll run into a big lump of spare cash one day, it always happens that way.
Anyhoo, managed to score a brand new genuine/bosch strater motor as used in BF sixes for crackers.
BF starter on left, EL starter on right.
Slowly starting to get the shifter install hapening, just working out positioning of the unit so it will be centred when the console is eventually put back into place. Going to have to cut out a section of the transmission tunnel and put a box in to lower the shifter a bit. When we get a BA Falcon in at work, i'll get it up on the hoist and see where the cable runs through the firewall.

Nice to see the progress, but the HID's - i dunno about them, i personally hate driving towards a car with HID's at night time, just too damn bright, or is it because they are not adjusted properly & hit me in the eyes?
My EB is a fair bit lower than std, so i guess that doesn't help. I recently put in some 90/100 W H4's and they are a huge gain over 55/60's. Good enough for me. I did once drive my torana with 2 candle power headlights, damn sealed beams! I've got a H4 lamp conversion to go in when it's back on the road.
Cheers

HID's are illegal unless the housing was made for them.. ordinary halogen lights are setup in such a way as to shine most light where needed and terminate in unsuitable areas (like in oncoming users eyes)
HID's can't work that way because they don't have filaments, so the directing must happen via the housing they are in... hence HID's in halogen housings being illegal.
That would be a really cool mod for Fordmods.. find a factory HID light that is a close fit and make it fit.. then it "should" be legal. |

HID lighting is perfectly legal to use. I went and talked to two DPI licensing and compliancing centres and a car accessory fitter today and all three assured me that i would not have a single problem with having the HID system in my car. I also went on the WA DPI website and there's nothing to say that HID lighting isn't illegal.
And as for causing road rage, i say bring on the biff haha , they're not THAT bright, certainly a more vivid light than normal halogen globes, not blinding, just super white.
But in other news, work has begun on maiming and hacking up the shifter to make it as compact as possible to fit into the transmission tunnel.
This still needs to be trimmed...

Interesting.. because all the sellers of HID systems in WA that I have seen have been forced to label them "for offroad use only"
I used to work for a place that had the option of selling them and we were in the same boat.
I'll look into it further..
I've known lots of cops with strange (and wrong) opinions of what is legal and what isn't. If they are wrong, then all it takes is for another cop to pull you up that actually knows the law.
