|
|
Can anybody help ? I have an ea Fairmont wagon which has a loud beeping noise coming from behind the dash panel when the air conditioner is turned on. The beeping noise is intermittent ie. it comes and goes approx every 15 seconds and gets louder when i accelerate. The noise stops instantly when i turn the a/c off. It is not a fan noise, more like an electronic high pitched beep.
Any ideas please ?

Sounds like a warning from the Dash - does the Trip Meter have anything on it? - and does pressing the reset button on the trip meter clear the noise.
Id normally expect that from Low Fuel, and in the case of the high series falcons low water, and low oil as well I think
Cheers

Nigel | Thanks for the feed back Nigel,
The Odometer & Trip Meter are not working and haven't for approx a year. The trip meter is zeroed and there are no warning lights showing on the dash panel. Fuel, water & oil are OK . I tried again yesterday to trace the source of the noise i am talking about & i now think it is emanating from behind the middle of the dash where the radio & a/c controls are located. My panel beater neighbor had a listen also and suggested it may be a faulty solenoid, mounted behind the dash & to do with the air conditioner, although the a/c is working o/k it may explain why the noise stops when the a/c is turned off. What do you think Nigel ? Regards Tedea |

Hmmm - could it be the fan motor, and some garbage in the airbox?
Or is it only with AC, and not with just fan.
Im not a guru - they were just some thoughts |

The fan doesn't stop when the a/c is turned off but the noise does. I know what you are saying about something
caught in the fan , but it's not that kind of noise. It sounds more like an electronic shreeeeeech, like hard chalk scratching on a blackboard every 15 sec or so, starting low & increasing in volume. Also the noise is constant no matter what speed the fan is on. I guess it,s off to the mechanic . Bugger !!!
Thanks again for your input Nigel,
Regards Tedea |

I was just thinking - Yeah the Mechanic (or an A/C Mechanic).
Sounds like the TX Valve is making noise. Some of the Evaporators make noise too

| My advice would be to pull the dash back and isolate the beeping noise. If it is electronic you could most probably replace it/ shut it off ( if it was like a small speaker). |
